The Joe Rogan Experience.
Cheers. Cheers, my friend. So good to see you. You too. These wildest of times.
Suzanne Santo (0:21)
Oh my god.
Joe Rogan (0:23)
The wildest, right?
Suzanne Santo (0:24)
I have no words for it.
Joe Rogan (0:26)
No one does.
Then your words change, and you know, you see a lot of people that are trying to say things because they want to assure themselves, and then they want to find other people that agree with them. That's why Twitter is such a dangerous thing for people who are mentally unstable during these trying times.
Suzanne Santo (0:43)
You watch people lose their minds.
Joe Rogan (0:44)
Yeah.
Suzanne Santo (0:45)
Well, it's a form of escapism.
Joe Rogan (0:47)
It is, but it's also, they're trying to find some stability in a time where there is no stability. And there's some people that are very uncomfortable with the unknown. They're very uncomfortable with things being in a state of flux. They don't know how this is going to work out, and they get serious anxiety. Because some people, they're just not good under pressure.
And this is a thing where everyone's under pressure.
Suzanne Santo (1:12)
Yes, yes.
Joe Rogan (1:12)
So you see all these, people that are freaking the fuck out.
Suzanne Santo (1:16)
Oh, I know.
Joe Rogan (1:17)
Those folks haven't had to deal with pressure.
Suzanne Santo (1:19)
Right.
Joe Rogan (1:20)
I mean, think about yourself. You've had to deal with a lot of pressure. You thrive under pressure.
Suzanne Santo (1:26)
I do. And I witnessed the challenge in front of me, and then I'm like, well, what the fuck are you going to do? Are you going to freak out? And I have a nice bandwidth for my understanding with myself.
So I went through all that last year. I really didn't tour at all in 2020
And so I was alone a lot. And I had to work on some shit. That's rough. And what's interesting is I did this thing where I figured some stuff out. Because when you're on the road, you can just leave your shit. You're just busy. What's in front of you is a show. And you're entertaining. And you're exhausted. You don't sleep that much. And it's go, go, go, go, go. And then when time stopped last year, I was like, oh, man, I got all this baggage.
I got to unpack it, and I don't want to. But I did. And it was kind of profound. And when I decided to move to Austin, that was part of this thing that I just discovered of great change that needed to take place in my life.
And then I met the love of my life when I got here, which is crazy because I had just signed on to this autonomous plan of not dating anyone for nine months. And I did it for a couple months, and it was awesome. It was the best I'd ever felt, making sure it was just me.
I'm not letting anybody in. I've got something I have to do. And then when I stopped caring about it is when the stars aligned, if you will.
And I feel that way about the anxiety around my career. The more I'm like, I have no control over what's happening. They cancel my shows, whatever. I was getting really sad about it. I was getting really anxious and depressed. And then the more I'm just, like you said earlier, this challenge of what I can't do, it's actually kind of nice. I'm just letting it go.
I'll take what I can get.
Joe Rogan (3:39)
I see what you're saying. It's like you found a balance in yourself, and then you met someone.
If you would talk to a psychologist, clearly I'm not one of those, but if you could, I would give you some bad advice. I'd be like, fucking suck it up. That would be the worst psychologist ever. But I think they would all tell you that that's when you're gonna make your healthiest choices because you're comfortable with yourself. It's like when people get desperate.
That's one of the things, like an attractive person could be desperate and it makes them unattractive. It's the weirdest thing about human nature. It's like we can't attribute it all to like the shape of a face or the shape of a body. There's something about a person, the way they hang out, the way they talk to you, like you're not compatible with everybody, you know? And some people, they just have a hard time syncing up and when they come off desperate and then everybody gets grossed out. It's like, do you know that there's a thing?
