The Joe Rogan Experience. Hello, Zuby.

Zuby (0:13)

Joe.

Joe Rogan (0:14)

Good to see you, man.

Zuby (0:14)

Good to see you again, bro, how are you?

Joe Rogan (0:15)

How difficult was it to travel across the pond, as it were?

Zuby (0:18)

Uh, I had to spend 15 days in Istanbul before I flew over to Houston. Really? Yeah, you have to get outside the Schengen Zone. You can't fly from anywhere, you can't fly from the UK, direct to the US or from any of the Schengen Zone European countries.

Joe Rogan (0:33)

What is the Schengen Zone?

Zuby (0:35)

Schengen Zone is the majority of the EU with exclusions. It excludes places like Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania.

Joe Rogan (0:42)

What does the word mean? Schengen.

Zuby (0:43)

Schengen, I think it's a trading, is it a trading zone?

Oh. It's called the Schengen Area. So it's most of the EU, but there's a couple exceptions. So since March 2020, you remember when Trump put in that travel ban?

Joe Rogan (0:57)

Yeah.

Zuby (0:57)

That was never lifted. A lot of people don't realize that was never lifted. So up until now, you still can't fly direct from the UK or most European countries to the US.

Joe Rogan (1:05)

But you can, there it is, the Schengen. I've never heard of it either.

Zuby (1:09)

There you go. Yeah. Schengen zone.

Joe Rogan (1:11)

That sounds like China.

Zuby (1:12)

So I flew from the-

Joe Rogan (1:13)

Doesn't that sound like way too much like China owns it? I mean, maybe it's not, but it sounds like it.

Zuby (1:20)

Yeah. So I was in Turkey for two weeks, and then I went from Turkey to Texas.

Joe Rogan (1:23)

So do you have to quarantine in Istanbul? Is that the idea? Or do you just were there to hang out?

Zuby (1:28)

Not a quarantine. I was just on vacation there. I was hanging out. I had a great time. Istanbul was amazing.

Joe Rogan (1:32)

What is that place like?

Zuby (1:33)

Istanbul is amazing.

Joe Rogan (1:34)

Yeah?

Zuby (1:34)

Yeah, great place. It was really cool. So you know, I grew up in the Middle East, and it's a real interesting combination between the Middle East and Europe.

So you're walking down the street, and you're seeing women fully covered up in burkas right next to girls in hot pants and mini skirts and stuff in the same place. I'm used to seeing both of those, but not usually in the same place.

Joe Rogan (1:54)

Do they get harassed?

Zuby (1:56)

Everyone's cool. It was like super duper tolerant. Some people were wearing masks, some people weren't. No one was minding their own business. It was just like, yeah, I'd never been there before, but I'll definitely go back.

Joe Rogan (2:06)

So you can't fly from the UK to the US, but you can fly from the US to the UK?

Zuby (2:12)

Yeah, but I think the US is on the UK's red list, which means that if you come in, you have to spend 10 days in a quarantine hotel, and you have to pay for the privilege of that.

Joe Rogan (2:22)

Do you think this is ever going to go back to normal travel?

Zuby (2:27)

Honestly, I think it really depends on the people. I think all the way through this, everything's dependent on the people. It depends on how people respond and how much they're willing to take.

And I think people have been willing to take far too much, which is why it's gone this far.

And I think that's really what it's dependent on. Same thing goes with these new mandates they're bringing in. I think this, I thought the same thing with the masking policies, the lockdown policies, etc. I think it ends when people end it, that's what I think.

Joe Rogan (2:54)

The people that I feel sorry for genuinely are the people that have to be in consistent contact with new people in close quarters, like airline attendants.

Like airline attendants, they have no idea what's on that plane. You know what I mean? They're taking a chance. They have no idea how many people are infected. They have no idea how badly they're infected or what they're infected with.

Zuby (3:20)

That's only domestically though, because internationally, you already know everyone on the plane has tested negative.

Joe Rogan (3:26)

Right.

Zuby (3:26)

Yeah.

Joe Rogan (3:27)

Internationally, you have to have a negative test. But within how long? How many hours?

Zuby (3:30)

Forty-eight hours for most places.

Joe Rogan (3:32)

See, here's the deal with that. Someone I know was negative on a day and then was coughing later on that day and infected everybody and then turned out to be positive that night. But during the day, he was negative.
