The Joe Rogan Experience.

Tim Dillon (0:14)

How are you? Thank you for having me.

Joe Rogan (0:17)

I didn't know you have no caffeine.

Tim Dillon (0:19)

No caffeine for years. How many years?

About two.

Joe Rogan (0:24)

What is that like?

Tim Dillon (0:27)

You sleep better.

Joe Rogan (0:28)

That's why here.

Tim Dillon (0:29)

Yeah, I was drinking coffee in the morning, and then having to, I would drink a cup at like four, and I would drink a cup at four. That would keep me up till 3 a.m. every night.

Yeah, so I had to stop, because I'm an addict. I have an addictive personality, and anything can become habitual.

Joe Rogan (0:49)

Yeah.

Tim Dillon (0:50)

So I had to be careful.

Joe Rogan (0:52)

I think I'm an addict, too.

Tim Dillon (0:53)

Well, you control it better than most.

Joe Rogan (0:56)

Yeah, but it's the same thing.

Tim Dillon (0:58)

You would be the definition of a high-functioning addict.

Joe Rogan (1:01)

This has 300 milligrams of caffeine.

Tim Dillon (1:03)

Now, what does that do? When you drink that, how do you feel?

Joe Rogan (1:06)

Sleep like a baby.

Tim Dillon (1:07)

Really?

Joe Rogan (1:08)

I can go to sleep under this table.

Tim Dillon (1:13)

Interesting. What does a regular cup of coffee have?

Joe Rogan (1:15)

That's not even 100, I don't believe. I think if you go to Starbucks and you get one of them whammy-jammy 20 ounces, I think that's a couple of hundred milligrams, right? We've done this before, right?

225 Starbucks is extraordinarily high in caffeine. 95?

Oh, well, 8-ounce, but 20 ounces is a venti, right? So maybe a little more. Yeah, it's in the range. I loved it.

Tim Dillon (1:43)

I started drinking coffee when I think my dad got me my first. I wanted to try a latte. We were in the Hamptons. I was like nine. And he said, yeah, try it.

And I started drinking coffee in my teens, and I kept drinking it throughout my 20s, and then I had to get rid of it.

But I loved it. Nothing is better in the morning than coffee and a cigarette.

Joe Rogan (2:03)

And you got rid of both of them?

Tim Dillon (2:04)

And then I went back. I go with cigarettes. I go on and off. Very bad.

Joe Rogan (2:08)

How are you at right now?

Tim Dillon (2:10)

Now is on.

Joe Rogan (2:11)

Yeah, you're on? You want a cigar?

Tim Dillon (2:13)

I don't want a cigar, unfortunately.

Joe Rogan (2:14)

You don't like cigars?

Tim Dillon (2:15)

I don't like cigars. Yeah, because you don't inhale.

So what's the fun?

Joe Rogan (2:19)

You can see what happens.

Tim Dillon (2:21)

But I quit. You know, I quit for 17 days. I didn't smoke for 17 days.

And then I just started, and then I'll quit for two months, and then I'll start. It's very compulsive and very bad.

Joe Rogan (2:31)

And when you smoke, do you smoke before shows? Do you smoke all day long?

Tim Dillon (2:35)

I don't smoke as much in the day, but I will smoke maybe I'll have one or two during the day, but at night, because I like to talk and bullshit.

Joe Rogan (2:44)

Yeah.

Tim Dillon (2:45)

So if I have a captive audience of people, like at my house, in my backyard, or at the comedy store, if we're all standing in the parking lot, whatever it is, it's just the smoking. I was in Denver, and when it's humid, you don't want to smoke. It doesn't feel good. But when you're in Denver, it's cool nights like LA.

You're a chimney. It feels great. I mean, it doesn't feel great, but it does.

Joe Rogan (3:08)

Well, it gives you a nice head rush.

Tim Dillon (3:10)

It gives you a nice head rush. And of all the things I've been addicted to, cocaine, booze, pills, you know, this is the hardest to get rid of, truly.

This is the hardest to knock.

Because when somebody's drinking, I look at it, I go, okay, it doesn't look good to me. It doesn't, I associate it with so much trauma that I go, I can't grab that glass of whiskey, it'd be a problem. But it really is, I'm just like, that's just a cigarette. Just a cigarette. And it's a very tough addiction.

Joe Rogan (3:42)

Is it that it's just a cigarette? Like, you think it's no big deal to smoke it because it's not gonna fuck you up, it's not gonna get you drunk?

Tim Dillon (3:51)

Well, there's that. Then there's the addict brain that goes, we're having one, we're having one.
