The Joe Rogan Experience.

Marcus Luttrell (0:06)

Train by day, Joe Rogan Podcast by night, all day. Great.

Joe Rogan (0:17)

Thanks for coming, man.

Marcus Luttrell (0:19)

One year to the date.

I think we were supposed to do this last year right when the quarantine hit.

Because it was April 1st that I called, isn't it?

Joe Rogan (0:27)

Yeah.

Marcus Luttrell (0:28)

I remember because Melanie was yelling at me, she's like, if you call Joe and tell him we're not gonna be making it out there, we're not gonna be able to make it out there. I was like, I was putting it off, putting it off. I was like, bro, I'll get out there. And then they did the lockdown, so almost to the date.

Joe Rogan (0:39)

It was spicy a year ago. No one knew what was happening.

Marcus Luttrell (0:43)

Crazy, right?

Joe Rogan (0:43)

It was a little weird.

Marcus Luttrell (0:44)

It was.

Joe Rogan (0:45)

Now, it's like, nobody's worried anymore.

Marcus Luttrell (0:49)

Except we learn fast, our people. They pick stuff up quick. I mean, when we suffer together, then it'll always be those that are trying to figure out a ways to get us back to where we're supposed to be.

And that just took some time.

Joe Rogan (1:00)

Yeah. Well, it seems like Texas did a much better job of relaxing once the pandemic hit where people just, you know, for some folks, it's very dangerous, but it seemed like Texas did a much better job of just going like, wait a minute, why is everybody freaking out over this?

Marcus Luttrell (1:17)

Yeah.

Joe Rogan (1:17)

Like we can open things up.

Marcus Luttrell (1:20)

Big place too. I think that has a lot to do with it because in the outlying towns, and there's a lot of things that got shut down when there's some things aren't, like money never got shut down. Everything that people still had to go out.

And they talk about that herd immunity. Because what the families, as they bunch up with them, you get sick, locked down, get the antibodies. But the more spread out, in some of the towns, they didn't even get it.

Joe Rogan (1:41)

Right.

Marcus Luttrell (1:42)

And then in the big cities, it would show up. But then just kind of common sense, that whole, we're gonna get through this. And always look for the better day. And then you can sit there and become a victim of being a victim and fear.

Like I'm so scared to go out because it might be out there. Well, yeah, of course it is. Everything's out there.

Joe Rogan (2:00)

That's what a lot of people are like in LA. In LA, there's a tangible feel.

Marcus Luttrell (2:04)

You can feel it.

Joe Rogan (2:05)

Yeah, it's in the air.

Marcus Luttrell (2:06)

It's a real thing.

Joe Rogan (2:06)

It's real fear.

Marcus Luttrell (2:08)

You know, at the fights, when you're standing there, you can feel that.

Joe Rogan (2:11)

Yeah.

Marcus Luttrell (2:12)

You can feel the presence of death when it shows up.

Everything knows if something better than it was just walked in the room, right? When we're at the fights, you can feel that when they walk in.

Joe Rogan (2:22)

Yeah.

Marcus Luttrell (2:23)

It's pretty cool.

Joe Rogan (2:23)

No, you can. That's the one energy that, like, right now we've been doing fights with no audience. It's real weird.

Marcus Luttrell (2:29)

I remember I texted you. I was like, how is that? It's wild.

Joe Rogan (2:32)

If you want to go to one, there's one this weekend in Vegas. It's the heavyweight championships, Stipe Miocic versus Francis Ngannou, and it's probably one of the last ones we do without an audience.

It's pretty fucking wild.

Marcus Luttrell (2:44)

What are the fighters saying?

Joe Rogan (2:46)

Some of them love it. It's less distractions. It's quicker for them to get into the octagon. Once they arrive there, they just warm up, and then they go in there. They don't have to get to the arena, like, early in the day and stay there all day. It's a different vibe, but it's great.

You know what I compare it to, the difference between a concert where you're at a filled arena with a rock band, electric guitars versus a small acoustic show. That's kind of the difference.

Marcus Luttrell (3:13)

Or like out behind the schoolhouse fighting as opposed to...

Joe Rogan (3:17)

Yeah.

Marcus Luttrell (3:17)

You know what I mean? Because the anticipation of it, once that punch goes, if not a lot of people are looking, that's the hardest part about being a fighter, I would imagine. Everyone's watching you do it.
