So fasting, you know, I think, is one of those things where it's a mental challenge, but once you've done it several times, it becomes a lot easier from a physical standpoint. I'm pretty used to it, so I know what to expect, and I think that probably helps me. What I like about biohacking and data tracking is trying to figure out ways of finding indirect measurements of insulin, autophagy. You know, obviously, we can measure glucose, ketones, but there are certain things that we cannot measure.

And so if we can indirectly measure them through things like HRV measurements, I think it gives you a better insight into overall how your body is doing.

Welcome to the Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm your host Siim Land, and our guest is John Limansky. John is a medical doctor who practices the ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting and other biohacks.

John, welcome to the show.

John Limansky (1:05)

Siim, it's always good to be with you.

Siim Land (1:07)

Yeah, we did like a podcast. Maybe I think it was a year ago or a little bit less.

And what have you been doing since that time?

John Limansky (1:17)

Yeah, you know, a little bit of biohacking, a little bit of fasting, a little bit of experimentation.

You know, like you in the process of finishing up a book, and so working on that. So quite a bit of the same thing, obviously still working with clients, patients, and trying to get people healthy again.

Siim Land (1:39)

Nice, nice. Has there been like any changes in the medical community that you've seen over the last, you know, half year?

John Limansky (1:47)

Yeah, I think there's been more medical physicians coming into the low-carb keto world. At least becoming more vocal about it.

As far as biohacking, probably not many yet. I think it's still probably another five, six years before. You know, we talk about just lifestyle modification and that's always a prescription, you know, diet and lifestyle changes, but we never really talk about what that means. So I think it's going to be another five, six years before real biohacking becomes maybe part of the medical establishment.

Siim Land (2:22)

Yeah, for sure, for sure. I do agree that keto and low carb eating and intermittent fasting, those things have become really popular.

But yeah, some like real, you know, there's layers to it and there's definitely like the optimal kind of nutrition or optimal health lifestyle for anyone is going to be different and that's kind of based upon like their own genetics, their biomarkers and so on. So that's where like you have to go into more in depth with more genetic testing and actually do more of like this biohacking thing.

John Limansky (2:56)

Absolutely. And you know, and on the subject of keto and physicians, you know, if you still have the premise that eating fat is going to cause cardiovascular disease until that changes, which I don't see that really changing probably ever, it's going to be hard for medical establishment to really get behind fully some sort of diet like keto or low carb. I think you'll see them do more of a Mediterranean based diet with olive oil, things like that, more mono and saturated fats.

But that's probably going to be the limiting factor to get physicians over to real keto and low carb high fat diets.

I definitely agree with you as far as the individuality. And I think as far as trends, that's one of the trends that I've seen quite a bit where people are now noticing that, OK, you know, the idea of just doing macros where you're hitting certain numbers as far as percentages of macronutrients starts off well for most people just as a basic idea of what they should do. But then they get to a point where it's maybe not working very well or as effectively. And then they realize, OK, I need to figure out specifically what's going to work with me. Is it going to be intermittent fasting? Is it going to be alternative fasting? You know, implementing different biohacks. So I think you're noticing the trend going from just all you have to do is eat keto to no, I need to do a little bit more. I see a lot of people now starting to talk about biohacking. You know, cold water immersion, sauna, I think is becoming popular.

Maybe not so much of the other ones. I think photobiomodulation is becoming a lot more popular with the juve light being, you know, a little bit more affordable now.
