Even more people realize that their gut lighting is quite out of whack. The more research is coming off from the leaky gut, the more we understand how it's actually behind in many things related to different kinds of diseases and inflammation, brain-related disorders and so on.

Welcome to the Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm your host Siim Land and our guest today is Olli Sovijärvi. Olli is a medical doctor and one of the pioneers of holistic medicine in Finland. He's also a speaker, consultant and one of the authors of the Biohacker's Handbook.

Olli, welcome to the show.

Olli Sovijärvi (0:58)

Thanks, thanks Siim. It's a pleasure to be here again.

Siim Land (1:01)

Yeah, you were on the podcast on one of the earlier episodes of the podcast, maybe a year ago or something.

Olli Sovijärvi (1:08)

I think, yeah, it was like one and a half years ago and I remember I was outside, outside speaking to you.

Siim Land (1:19)

You were really immersed in nature, getting the elements.

Olli Sovijärvi (1:23)

Yeah, yeah, that was also fun, but now we are in the Biohacker Center office in a not so natural environment.

Siim Land (1:32)

But we've been also meeting face to face a lot of times over the past year. But I think the last time we met, we were in Biohacker Summit Toronto.

So what have you been up to since that time?

Olli Sovijärvi (1:49)

Yeah, it seems like forever, even though it was like the last October, the Toronto event. So we've been launching our Biohacker's Handbook, which is finally now out in English. And it's been going really, really well. It's been sold over 60 countries all around the world, so every continent. And the feedback has been just amazing.

And so that's like the main storyline for today.

Siim Land (2:21)

It's been a best seller in Finland already like a few years, I think.

Olli Sovijärvi (2:25)

Yeah, it was released in 2016, late 2016 It went immediately into the best selling science book. So it's been selling close to 20,000 copies, which in Finnish scale, it's pretty remarkable.

Siim Land (2:44)

I also have like the physical copy of the English book. I don't know how we can see it, but it's a pretty big book.

Olli Sovijärvi (2:52)

Yeah, I can actually grab it and just show it in the first show. So just give me a minute.

Siim Land (2:58)

Yeah.

Olli Sovijärvi (3:04)

Boom, so here's the book. It's quite thick. It actually weighs like 2.2 kilograms.

So you can do some exercise with it. So we wanted to make like a piece of art. So it's just not like a regular book. It's the print quality and everything, like inside all the pictures and stuff. It's like super, super high quality.

Siim Land (3:34)

I think since the last time we talked, you also quit your medical doctor's job and you're like doing full time other things. So why did you make this decision?

Olli Sovijärvi (3:46)

That's a very, very important decision, which I had been thinking about like past three, four years. So it wasn't like snap in the moment decision, but I was downgrading my appointment with the patients just to focus fully on spreading out the message in preventive healthcare and biohacking. So it's been freed up, I would say like 40 to 50% more time for me to do this and create more content and high quality web courses and so on. So it was quite, I don't know, difficult decision, but you know, when you jump in from like steady source of income into being an entrepreneur and living with uncertainty and are you gonna sell or are you gonna sell? So that's been one of the things, but stress wise and how I feel my quality of life is at the moment is just to the roof.

So I feel much better now and I can also share my experience and knowledge on preventive healthcare.

Siim Land (5:01)

You do have like a lot of experience from your like medical practice, so to say years and years.

Olli Sovijärvi (5:07)

Yeah, I have like 15 years of practice from various fields and like from emergency situations and being on call like all the time into more holistic one and one and one and a half hour appointments with the patients. I've seen the whole spectrum.

So that's been part of creating what I am today.
