Joe Rogan (0:00)

with that, we go live with all the y'all.

Christopher Ryan (0:01)

Y'all, Brick Road, that's some good song.

Joe Rogan (0:04)

Oh yeah, dude.

Christopher Ryan (0:06)

The bitch is back.

Joe Rogan (0:07)

Oh, and we're live, ladies and gentlemen, Shrimp Parade. Powerful Duncan Trussell's in the house.

Duncan Trussell (0:12)

I'm back.

Joe Rogan (0:13)

Dr. Chris Ryan, looking like you're fresh off of vacation, like we just pulled you out of someone's sailboat.

Christopher Ryan (0:18)

I was on a fishing trip.

Joe Rogan (0:21)

Perfect, right?

Christopher Ryan (0:22)

Yeah, yeah, the endless vacation.

Joe Rogan (0:24)

We were talking about Elton John right before we started. I think there's some Elton John songs that are just all-time classics, you know?

Christopher Ryan (0:33)

Yeah, what are your favorites? Top three.

Joe Rogan (0:35)

Boy. Man.

Christopher Ryan (0:38)

Do you like Daniel?

Duncan Trussell (0:40)

That's the best.

Joe Rogan (0:40)

Daniel's a great song.

Christopher Ryan (0:41)

I love that.

Joe Rogan (0:41)

Rocket Man is one of my favorites.

Christopher Ryan (0:43)

Rocket Man's great, yeah.

Joe Rogan (0:44)

Rocket Man's so good.

I don't know. I never thought about that. Let me go over the lyrics. You know, that's one of those songs you just, the lyrics almost become inconsequential because the lyrics are, oh, this is the sound that song makes. I remember that song. That song has this feeling.

Christopher Ryan (1:00)

It's like listening to a song in a different language.

Joe Rogan (1:02)

Right, right.

Christopher Ryan (1:03)

The voice is just an instrument.

Duncan Trussell (1:04)

But it's weird when you find out what a song's about and it's the opposite, oh, does it say what it is?

Joe Rogan (1:11)

No, this is just the lyrics?

Christopher Ryan (1:12)

Yeah, it's about an astronaut.

Duncan Trussell (1:14)

They're annotated lyrics.

Joe Rogan (1:16)

I don't think it is. I think it's about like.

Duncan Trussell (1:18)

Snorting ketamine. It's about, I think it's about like getting blasted.

Christopher Ryan (1:22)

I miss my wife. I miss the earth so much.

Joe Rogan (1:24)

Oh, are you just guessing, Duncan?

Duncan Trussell (1:26)

Well, I mean, we all get to interpret music in our own way, but for sure, that's Elton John. He's in some hotel room.

He's laid out some lines at Ketamine.

Joe Rogan (1:35)

Look at what it says here. It says during the drug era, given that it was penned during the 1970s drug era, people can still see that it serves as an extended metaphor comparing fame to space travel.

Wow, that makes a ton of sense. But it also, I bet it also was about rocket travel. Because Bernie Taupin wrote it, right?

Christopher Ryan (1:55)

Yeah.

Joe Rogan (1:55)

He wrote it.

Christopher Ryan (1:56)

He wrote it on.

Joe Rogan (1:57)

Yeah. What a great combination to those guys.

Christopher Ryan (2:00)

It's like you and Young Jamie.

Joe Rogan (2:02)

Well, very similar.

Christopher Ryan (2:03)

Nobody ever hears about Young Jamie. Last time I was here, I tried to get him on my podcast. He's eluding me.

Joe Rogan (2:08)

Yeah.

Duncan Trussell (2:08)

Really?

Joe Rogan (2:09)

He's smart. I remember that, sorry.

Doesn't want to be on your crazy podcast out in the woods.

Christopher Ryan (2:14)

Come in the van, Jamie.

SPEAKER_4 (2:16)

We'll record in the van.

Joe Rogan (2:21)

Saturday night, that's a great one.

Christopher Ryan (2:23)

All right for fighting.

Joe Rogan (2:24)

Yeah, that's a great one. That's a great workout song.

Christopher Ryan (2:26)

That's a real kind of like...

Joe Rogan (2:28)

Yeah.

Christopher Ryan (2:29)

Yeah.

It's like a punk British Saturday night. Daniel's the first time I really thought about Spain. That's about Daniel, my brother. He's heading out on a plane. I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain.

Duncan Trussell (2:41)

That's about his friend dying, for sure.

Christopher Ryan (2:44)

He's blind, no. It's about his blind brother, I believe.

Duncan Trussell (2:48)

I'm misinterpreting all these John songs.

Christopher Ryan (2:50)

You must have that experience a lot.

Duncan Trussell (2:52)

Yes, I like him less. I don't like what his songs are about.

Joe Rogan (2:57)

Well, you know what's interesting about this conversation is trying to interpret what songs are is the very actual thing that happened when people were trying to interpret the stories from the Bible. But it's basically the same thing. We're trying to figure out, no, he meant this. No, he meant that. These parables and some of the stories that are in the Bible.

If you go to the John Marco Allegro definition, what does it say? Okay, the song was written from his younger brother's perspective. Hmm.
