How Long Gone, a beautiful fall day in New York City.
The leaves are still green, but you feel it, Jason. You know what I'm saying? You know it's coming. You can smell it.
Jason Stewart (0:29)
You can feel it in your little taint area.
Chris Black (0:30)
Yeah, I can feel, I can feel that.
Jason Stewart (0:32)
What's it smell like? What's it smell like? I don't mean that in a pimpin sense of the word either.
Chris Black (0:36)
I don't really, it smells pretty good as far as New York goes. Obviously summer is the worst smelling, and then we go from there. I think winter picks back up as far as bad. Cold has a smell, Jason.
Jason Stewart (0:46)
Really?
Chris Black (0:48)
Yeah, because it hurts a little bit. You know, it's more physical in nature, I would say, than a summer or fall scent.
Jason Stewart (0:56)
You sound like a Caroline Polichek ass lyric right now. I'm just coming off of EsDeeKid live at the Hollywood Palladium last night.
Chris Black (1:08)
Do you feel dumber than when you went in?
Jason Stewart (1:12)
I wouldn't say dumber. I mean, you know, it's hard for me to appreciate, you know, hip hop music from 2026, you know, as an old head, as an unk.
There's not much for me going on there. It's, you know, I kind of don't pay attention to live hip hop when it's just like a DJ playing the songs.
Chris Black (1:32)
Well, I was going to say live is a strong word for what he's doing is my guess. Yeah.
Jason Stewart (1:36)
I mean, you know, he's, he's burning calories up there, but just every hip hop show like that, anything that is just kind of, you know, rolling loud, adjacent-y, whatever.
Chris Black (1:46)
Hey, chill, chill, chill, chill. But yeah, I see what you mean.
Jason Stewart (1:48)
All that shit. It's, it's just a DJ plays the song.
Every song has like a boring instrumental intro. That's like 30 seconds. That's, you know, trying to copy the Travis like, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, and it, it has like a vaguely dark kind of goth energy to it.
And then the rapper, whoever it is, goes one, two, one, two, three, go. And then the beat and then the song just plays. And then you just kind of dance around in like this half-hearted, I'm just here to get the bag. You know, I don't want to look at my fans in the face and see how, well, whatever they are.
Chris Black (2:31)
In his defense, I don't want to look at them either, but is the, the energy is high in the room though.
Jason Stewart (2:36)
Energy is very high in the room, but.
Chris Black (2:39)
Well, that's good.
Jason Stewart (2:40)
Yeah, but it's, it's, it really, I've talked about a bunch on the pod before, but just, it's a bummer to see hip hop sort of take that brainless EDM route where, you know, we don't know what to do unless the person on stage is telling us what to do. And this is the part where you rage and this is the part where you chill.
Chris Black (2:58)
Hey bro, hey bro, hey, is that, is that worse than a circle pit at Chapel Rhone? You know, I don't know. I don't know. I'm not saying that's definitely happened, but you know what I mean.
Jason Stewart (3:08)
No.
Chris Black (3:08)
It's like that, that's where we're at. That's like kind of where we're at with it.
Jason Stewart (3:11)
So yeah, I felt like I was, have you, if you've ever seen video footage of somebody performing live in Minecraft, you know what I mean? Like Jane Remover or Porter Robinson or whatever is gonna perform live inside of a video game.
That's what it felt like. It felt like it was just, I was in a room with 3,500 care avatars, users, and not people. They were just disposable humans that had phones and they were here to film the show.
Chris Black (3:42)
Were you definitely the oldest person there?
Jason Stewart (3:45)
Couple bartenders up in there that may have been giving me a run for my money. I mean, no, no, no.
Rickie De Sole (3:50)
We got some career mixologists that are kind of...
Jason Stewart (3:53)
EsDeeKid and so many other people, I was riding the wall, the back wall with a lot of people and I'm looking at them, I'm like, you're here because your kids are here. Like you're here chaperoning. That's how young the fan base is. It's just like 13, eight-year-old, 10-year-olds.
