Hey, mate, how long gone? Beautiful day in London, Jason. I'm just praying that you didn't go to ComplexCon. Are you okay?
Jason Stewart (0:27)
I was Mark Safe from ComplexCon at the Los Angeles Convention Center. It used to be in Long Beach, Strong Beach.
Chris Black (0:34)
Yo, wow, I was able to avoid it. I've never heard Strong Beach before. That's nice. That's sad that I've never heard that. Yeah.
Jason Stewart (0:40)
Damn, well, you don't listen to enough West Side Connection, I guess.
Chris Black (0:44)
Nope, I really don't, I really don't.
Jason Stewart (0:47)
So typically, I live in LA, and then I'm able to avoid ComplexCon as it's in Long Beach. And then now that it's in Los Angeles, I actually went down to Orange County to escape the urban heat and flavor.
Chris Black (1:01)
Oh, that's smart. I see what you did. I was, yeah, I woke up today and I was looking on the timeline as I do.
And I was just, I watched a video where a guy was standing at the entrance of ComplexCon, asking everyone what booth they were going to first. And I kid you not, out of 15 respondents, I might have known two of the brands mentioned. And I sort of do this for a living. And I was kind of like, wow, there's a whole world that exists out there where you can get stabbed over a hoodie that people haven't even heard of. And that's powerful. That's powerful.
Jason Stewart (1:40)
I mean, people like us haven't heard of it.
Chris Black (1:42)
No, but it used to be like if you're gonna get stabbed, it's going to be for Bape or at least some crazy, you know, polo, low head shit or, you know, something.
Jason Stewart (1:50)
Now it's literally- Shout out to our Pleasures family. Get stabbed over some pleasures. It was a simpler time back then. Can't get stabbed. Now it's cool. I got stabbed in front of the X9C411 booth.
Chris Black (2:02)
It's just words.
Jason Stewart (2:03)
I got stabbed at the Ann Demeulemeester booth or all these crazy brand names.
Chris Black (2:08)
Well, at least Ann is a real brand. I like, the name is crazy to say every time. Ann wasn't there. She was busy collaborating with Ethel Cain. I'm just looking at some of these.
Jason Stewart (2:17)
Has anyone ever called it Zan Demeulemeester?
Chris Black (2:20)
Definitely. Actually, I never say this, but yes, I think so. Yeah, I'm looking at the website now at the people that are, and it's amazing. The mix of booths. We've got, Amazon has a booth, so I do know that brand at least.
Jason Stewart (2:34)
Shout out to Neil. Get that check, baby.
Chris Black (2:36)
Going through here is-
Jason Stewart (2:37)
We gotta pay for all this bullshit.
Chris Black (2:39)
Ben Yeh Boys, Beham Studios, Blue T-Shirt, Bottega Desires, Kumpf, Circulate, Designed by Leaf. Bro, this is crazy.
Jason Stewart (2:54)
Do you think that-
Chris Black (2:55)
Baywatch on Fox has a booth, just to be clear.
Jason Stewart (2:57)
These are not the most well-known brands, the one that you're talking about. Do you think it's a scenario where, with other sub-genres like metal or hip hop or other fashion or whatever it is, books, people are trying to, the camera is on their face, and now you have to think of the most esoteric, for the heads only brand to make you look cool, so you're not just saying like, oh, I'm here, I'm gonna go straight to the Ray-Ban meta booth, or I'm gonna go to the Pokemon- It has to be that. You know, billionaire boys club. They don't wanna do that. They wanna say, I'm here for Seventh Heaven.
Chris Black (3:31)
Dude, this is amazing, because it's a mix of this shit, and Lemons on Fire is next to Lexus and Lids, if we're going alphabetically. I'm just, I'm honestly-
Jason Stewart (3:40)
This is a Screamo festival lineup.
Chris Black (3:41)
It does, that's the problem. It does feel like this could be in someone's-
Jason Stewart (3:45)
Bro, Russell Westbrook's brand is the most Screamo band I've ever heard of.
Chris Black (3:51)
Oh, dude, Honor the Gift, Honor the Gift. Honor the Gift is dead-ass, split-seven-inch brand name. You're absolutely right, Honor the Gift.
Awful brand, awful name. So an awful name, a good name for a Screamo band, bad name for a basketball player's novelty clothing. What is the gift, Russ? What is-
Jason Stewart (4:08)
Being good at basketball?
Chris Black (4:08)
That's the question, what is the gift?
I'm just, I'm honestly stunned by this whole thing, but then I don't know, do you know who Lucky with an I is? Are you familiar with this artist?
