This is episode 88 of the Hybrid Coaching Podcast. In this episode, JK and I catch up a little talk about HYROX Las Vegas, the experience of being there, and how some athletes did, as well as we go over, should coaches be doing the workouts or the events that they're coaching? Let's make Hybrid Fitness work for you. How's it going today, JK?
**JK** (0:49)
I'm well, thank you, Anthony. How are you doing after the weekend?
**Anthony** (0:56)
Good, good. Well, not so good, but we'll get into that. I had a fantastic weekend though at Las Vegas. The Las Vegas HYROX just went off, and we have now maybe 10, 11 days until HYROX DC, the first regional of the year.
**JK** (1:21)
It's exciting. It's exciting, mate. Looked as if the hybrid engine took over Vegas, mate. You guys put on a show.
For those of you who didn't know, Anthony raced as well. Do you want to go into that now?
**Anthony** (1:40)
We can start with that. So yeah, I didn't. I raced and I had several goals this weekend, but intentions of racing. First off, it went pro doubles, a day of rest, and then pros.
This weekend is I've never done a two race weekend. So doing a two races in a weekend, as a coach, right, you guys do two races in a weekend a lot. We've talked about this before, that coaches should know the demands that they're putting on their athletes. Not just like theoretical demands too, but like the actual demands. So I went and raced twice in one weekend just to better understand the feeling of it, and we'll get into that on the second part of this. But yeah, I ended up racing twice in one weekend. I had two goals. You could throw a little third goal in there, and we only really hit one of them. So that's okay, though.
**JK** (2:49)
So for the listeners as well, Anthony, if you don't mind me bringing this up, you've had a bit of an injury for the past week, and I just want to ask you, right, what I asked you just offline, but just before, Sunday came around after your doubles race, and you were meant to line up for your singles. You were actually messaging me, like we were messaging back and forth, saying your neck and your arm is pretty painful. Just for the listeners, like just like what was going on with your injury?
**Anthony** (3:31)
So I still have it. I think I've talked about this before. I've injured my back before, my low back, where I had the neuropathy going down my left leg, making my toes numb, but you get that sharp shooting pain. And that's full body debilitating when it's in your core like that. Well, last Monday, I don't know what I did. I don't know if I slept wrong, if I laid in the sauna wrong or what, or if I just have some tight traps. But I don't know. I've been trying to loosen them up for a week. So I doubt it's that at this point. It's still really painful. My right arm is pretty rough, but it doesn't inhibit movement. I just get constant dull pain and sharp shooting pains. I've tried some nerve flossing techniques and some muscle relaxation things on my neck. But basically, it's the same thing that happened. It feels like down my low back where I'm having nerve pain from my neck, through my trap, through my delt, tricep, elbow and into my forearm. It's not quite at the fingertips yet. So it's just there. But there's a lot of pain associated with it. But it's not inhibiting any movement.
So it's just like, how much do you want to deal with it? And that started last week. Went through the doubles race with it. And I knew I was going to be able to. But yeah, you and I were talking before the solos race. And I think I told you it was going to be in the warm up area where I decided if I was going to take the start line or not.
**JK** (5:14)
Yeah, yeah. And I asked you just before, Anthony, like, not rolls reverse, but if you knew, if I was lining up for a race, you being my coach, and you knew the pain that I was in for an injury like this, would you have told me to race? Would you have thought about telling me it's probably wise not to race? And you actually came up with two other questions that you answered. What were they?
**Anthony** (5:50)
Yeah, so, and I told you this, too.
