Brian Lehrer on WNYC. All right, a few more options for sports spectating, bargain hunters. How about NYC FC, New York City FC, the soccer team that plays at Yankee Stadium? I've done that super fun. And I see tickets were going for as low as $8 earlier this season, average around 55 That league is on break for World Cup right now, but resumes later in the summer. The Hudson Valley Renegades, the Yankees High A affiliate up in Wappinger Falls. There are a few minor league teams in New Jersey. I've gone to see the Lakewood Blue Claws, super fun.
If you want actual World Cup action, by the way, without the finals price tag, some of the group stage matches at MetLife for less high profile matches, had face value tickets starting at $60.
When we looked it up, though many of those may be gone or on resale now. But there are things you can do out there. Walk to your local park and watch a little league game. Beatrice in Brooklyn has an interesting story pertaining to the Knicks and the playoffs. Hi Beatrice, you're on WNYC.
**Beatrice** (1:51)
How are you doing?
**Brian Lehrer** (1:53)
Good. You got on an airplane?
**Beatrice** (1:55)
Can you hear me okay?
**Brian Lehrer** (1:56)
Yeah.
**Beatrice** (1:57)
Yeah. We went to see the Knicks play Cleveland for game four.
It was significantly cheaper to go all the way to Cleveland, book flights, hotel, great meals, great game to see the Knicks win game four against Cleveland. We do not regret it and I want to show your points around the minor league games. Definitely, Wappinger, they have great merch. The Binghamton team, great for families, great cheap seats and meals if you're bringing kids. The minor league games, all of them are just really a lot of fun, great day trips if you're trying to get out of the city.
**Brian Lehrer** (2:37)
So just everyone's point on that. What's the Binghamton team called again? That's a Mets minor league, right? They have a funny name, don't they?
**Beatrice** (2:44)
That's Mets minor league. They have a speedy night, which if you can get in on the speedy night, you're going to have a good time.
**Brian Lehrer** (2:52)
Beatrice, thank you. Oh yeah, they're the rumble ponies.
What's a rumble pony? I have no idea. Do they sit in the rumble seat of your car? Vincent and Warren, you're on WNYC. Hi Vincent.
**Vincent** (3:06)
Hey, how are you, Brian? Yeah. Just to get away from the sports for a second. I know everybody's into it, but as far as the music entertainment is concerned, there are so many great local musicians and venues here in New York and the boroughs.
Just to get out there and support your local musicians, and who knows, you might see the next Bob Dylan or something in one of these clubs, like the Bitter End or the Bag It In or the Blue Note or something like that. Support your local musicians. There's always great players in the city. It's New York, God's sake.
**Brian Lehrer** (3:40)
Vincent, thank you very much. Yeah. Some of those top flight jazz clubs can be pretty expensive too. Sometimes even your local bars without the cover charge followed by how much you're required to spend on drinks, which you might see at some of the top line places. But for sure, how about Bob and Baldwin, who has another minor league baseball reference and suggestion. Hi, Bob.
**Vincent** (4:10)
Hi. Good morning, Long Island Ducks.
**Phil** (4:12)
I believe the parking may be free or very reasonable. The refreshments there are reasonable. You might see some major leaguers who are a little on the old side. But my son and daughter-in-law go there all the time and they say it's great.
**Brian Lehrer** (4:29)
Bob, thank you very much. Further out on Long Island, Phil, you're on WNYC. Hi, Phil.
**Phil** (4:37)
Hi, Brian. How are you? I listen to you every day. I'm a frequent flyer with you guys. I just wanted to give you a little heads up on something out there. I don't know if it's exactly your cup of tea for your audience. Probably isn't, but if you're ever out on the North Fork of Long Island and you're out in Riverhead, they can pop in to Riverhead Raceway. Like I say, it might not be somebody's cup of tea here, but it's a lot of fun for the kids for $30 or $40. You get a full day of racing events, different events, different divisions and whatnot. Sometimes they have figure 8 races, school bus demolition, very kid-friendly, down home people, food is okay, but at the end of the night, you get to go into the pits and you get to talk to the drivers. They sign the autographs for the children.
