There is a photograph that was never supposed to survive. It was taken at 3.13 in the morning, on February 14th of 2024, inside an apartment on Mishicot Road in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. A three-year-old boy is lying down with a black blindfold pulled over his eyes. There's bruising on his jawline, bruising on the left side of his neck, bruising on his upper left arm. His name was Elijah Vue. The woman who took the photograph was his mother, Katrina Baur. She confirmed she took it. Then, one hour later, she deleted it from her phone. Then she drove home, 150 miles back to Wisconsin Dells, and left her son behind with a man responsible for his care. Six days later, that man called 911 and said Elijah had wandered off. Seven months after that, a hunter found a child's bones in the woods near a girl scout camp. That's where this story begins. As we go through it, your thoughts on the comment section on Substack and YouTube? Elijah Vue was three years old. He was still in diapers. He was still being bottle fed. And the two people responsible for his life were texting each other instructions on how to make him afraid.
These fuckers. Here's what happened. Katrina Baur sent her three-year-old son to stay with her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, at Vang's apartment in Two Rivers on February 12, 2024 Two Rivers is roughly two and a half hours of a drive from where Baur and Elijah Vue lived in Wisconsin Dells. According to the criminal complaint, Baur told investigators she sent Elijah to Vang for disciplinary reasons, you know, like you do with the three-year-old. She said she wanted Vang to teach Elijah how to be a man, you know, like you do with the three-year-old. Vang described the agreement as boot camp, you know, like you do with the three-year-old. He told police his goal was to make Elijah understand that going home is like a privilege for him.
Yeah, a privilege to be home. With that bitch. Elijah was supposed to be returned to his mother by February 23rd. He never came home. And unfortunately, these people are still alive in a cell.
Only you can prevent forest fires. Or let them erupt and destroy and take over and remove people from this planet.
He never came home. I mean, think about that for a second. A mother drove her toddler two and a half hours across the state, dropped him off with her boyfriend, not a therapist, not a family member, not a licensed provider. So a grown man could break a three-year-old's will. And both of them talked about it like it was a reasonable parenting plan. What discipline reportedly looked like inside the department, according to the criminal complaint and court testimony, standing timeouts that lasted between one to three hours, forced, of course, because you got to get this mixed in, forced prayer at Vang's bedside. Yes, because religion will work. Cold water as punishment for overfilling his diaper. The boys' one toy, a tool set he'd gotten for Christmas, was confiscated for the entire visit. He wasn't allowed to play with it. Vang told the police he changed Elijah's diaper. Once a day, once a day. He was also reportedly trying to take away the boys' bottle and force him onto solid food. This was a child who is still being bottle fed. Vang told investigators the child was scared of him. And then he corrected himself. He said the child respected him.
I know, I know they're still breathing everyone. These two, they're still alive in prison. Elijah isn't. Tell me how this is the justice system at work or a society that is truly functioning well. A society that doesn't look at people that are doing this to a child and just pull out the service revolver and go, you know what, we're gonna stop this right here.
Unfortunately, there's due process for people like this. And there's prison child. I know I like to go there a lot because some people just don't deserve air. These are two of them. The text between Vang and Baur filled in the rest. On February 17th, Vang messaged Baur and told her he'd subjected Elijah to cold water for overfilling his diapers, said the boy was clean but scared. February 18th, two days before Elijah was reported missing, Vang texted Baur at 4.36 in the morning, saying, I told you to trust me. I'ma make sure he hates me in being here. Baur's response, don't want him to hate you, just fear you, Vang replied. He did fear me, but he didn't respect me. Now I'm making him respect me. I don't know why they have southern accents. They're in northern Wisconsin, but in my, yeah. Should we do that again? Should we do it with northern accents? Just to make it topography correct. I told you to trust me. I make sure he hates me in being here. Baur's response, don't want him to hate you, just fear you, Vang replied. He did fear me, but he didn't respect me. Now I'm gonna make him respect me. Is that more appropriate? It's insane. This is a horrible, horrible story. I, going through this story pains me because it's, puts your blood pressure up a little bit.
