Maternal Instinct: What Taylor Parker Was Faking Long Before the Pregnancy

Now, the Portal to Hell, known as Netflix, has put out another great documentary. I mean, it's like, I love Netflix, but it's like, wow, you cut a window into the dark side over there. Taylor Parker and Maternal Instinct told friends she had cancer, told them she has MS, a brain tumor, a stroke, faked the symptoms on camera, she convinced multiple partners, she was pregnant years after a hysterectomy. The list goes on and on. And when the lies started to collapse, she drove to a 21-year-old mother's house and carved a child out of her, the same woman who she took photographs of her wedding at.
Yeah, all of that. We're going to break it down and tell you exactly who she is or the best we can. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott is with us here on Wednesday, as always, in Rob Hendrick, retired FBI Special Agent C for the Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program.

Yeah. I mean, holy crap. My God.
Let's start here, because we got to start somewhere on this cornucopia of wrong. Covered in blood, holding a dead baby, umbilical cord in her pants. She's she's placed it there. She gets pulled over by a state trooper, looks him in the eye and says she just gave birth. Everyone there assumes that's someone that's detached from reality. A kind of composure under that kind of pressure, that acting. Oh my God.
What the hell are we looking at there, Shavaun? What does that suggest to you of what's going on in her mind?

**Shavaun Scott** (1:55)
This is obviously an unusual person. We don't see a lot like her, fortunately.
But this is a woman whose entire life, her entire personality was about getting attention and lying and acting and role playing. And she craved drama. She craved an audience. And there was no bottom for her, no moral bottom. So we can certainly break that down about what kind of personality this is. And yeah, I think that's why, of course, we're all jaw-dropping. I know people that cried during the documentary. It just is so horrifying, really impacted people. But yeah, she's definitely special in a bad way.

**Rob Hendrick** (2:47)
You know, Shavaun, and I talked to Christine Marie, the amazing woman that did the documentary of uncovering Jason Bateman, because she did so much undercover work to really bring him to justice. And she had to be someone not totally who she was for such a long period of time. I've done a lot of undercover work.
Those mental gymnastics are so exhausting to a human being, because you're living in a deception, because anytime you're not being who you are, it takes brain energy and it takes up a lot of energy in the brain. And since this human, I can't even say human being, she was taking up so much energy and so much lies. Where does someone like that even get the energy to keep going to sustain that? Because she never really looked totally drained. I mean, where does a human being then garner that energy from to keep this massive, I've never seen such an intricate, elaborate, scheming deception where she'd go into bathrooms for hours at a time to orchestrate this entire scheme around her day in, day out for years.

**Shavaun Scott** (3:57)
Yeah. Yeah. This role playing was part of her identity. And I think you can say she was addicted to it. So rather than feeling exhausted by it, this is what energized her. And this is what made her who she was. You know, somebody said to me, but don't you think she was crazy?
And there were three psych evals done when she was in prison. Everybody said, no mental illness. Now, let Cluster be personality disorders. That group we're always talking about on this show and everywhere else. Definitely.
Some of them extreme. But she's not mentally ill. And personality is that stable pattern of perceiving, feeling, and behaving that's consistent over time. And I think this probably started in her childhood. She got really good at it. And this became who she is. There's really not a real Parker in there. There's this layer of twisted stuff.

**Rob Hendrick** (4:58)
So since because her identity, her lies and deception, that became her identity, who she was. Is that basically saying then that was not energy draining? In other words, to tell the truth would be actually be more psychologically draining to her than actually being a lie?

**Shavaun Scott** (5:15)
Yeah, I doubt she's ever really had an honest day in her life. You know, maybe an honest five minutes here and there, but not a full day of being real. And so I think she fed off this. She obviously fed off attention.
