Hello, everybody. That's Jason Hammer, live out of the Johnson County Fair in the Farm Bureau Building. And we are having a blast so far, Hammer. Hour one down, two more to go. I've milked a goat. There's nothing quite as satisfying as holding on to that udder and squeezing out some milk out of a goat, man. I've never done it before in my life. I feel, you know, liberated and exhilarated and I just can't tell you the emotions I'm feeling right now after milking that goat.

Let's talk a little, Johnson, Johnson County. Can we do that?
The candidate for trustee from the Republican Party is Jodi Alvey. Now, if that name sounds familiar, Jodi's husband is that very loud, over the top barbarian guy that does those ash hole podcasts, Brian Alvey, who happens to be here as well. So how are you?

We are doing fantastic. So I was talking to some of the locals around here, right? Because I'm a Southsider, but I'm still Marion County. I didn't quite get to Johnson County. I'm Beech Grove. But the locals around here say that the incumbent Republican in your position for trustee is getting a little squirrely and supporting a Democrat. Do you want to get into this? Because I think this is crap.

Yes, that's what I have been told, and that is what is seems obvious on social media.
The Democrat who has been gracious to me. I've not met her personally, but has been in the office volunteering or being paid. I don't know which, but yeah, Lydia is definitely supporting the Democrat.

What did you do to tick her off?

Myself and the two other employees walked out last May after just seeing the direction that the office was going. We were not happy with, so we all turned in our resignations that day.

**Nigel** (2:53)
That'll do it.
Yeah. And that'll do it. And now you want to run as the trustee to make things all transparent on the up and up and do things the right way. And apparently, that rubs the incumbent the wrong way, even though it's the same party.

Correct. To me, at that point, it doesn't even matter.
As long as I'm not in the office, she would support whoever. It's very validating as to why I ran. Just showing her true colors as far as, in my opinion, it just...

Because you're not a lifelong politician, right?

Okay. So your first go-around, you're already getting the full experience of backstabbing and the behind the scenes crap.

Back up just for a second. What's involved in being a Johnson County trustee?

**Jodi Alvey** (3:38)
So, okay, so the trustee mainly does, I'd say, I mean, almost 90% of the job is poor relief.
And then you've got some cemeteries and then some fire district areas, Franklin Union does not. So the Franklin Union trustee would basically mainly just do poor relief and cemetery upkeep.

**Nigel** (3:56)
So this is like important stuff here, stuff that really isn't the sexiest headline when you're watching political websites and stuff, but stuff that every resident needs to have accomplished.

**Jodi Alvey** (4:07)
Correct, yeah.

So why would you want to do that?

**Jodi Alvey** (4:12)
After working in that office, I mean, I had to be honest, I had no idea what a trustee was until I applied for the job and started working in 2016 for the current trustee. And I absolutely loved the job. It was, I just fell in love with it. I loved helping people.
It was just a very rewarding job.

Was it hard to finally make that decision to say, you know what, I'm going to run for office? Because I'm sure your better half has told you some war stories and the world that we live in. Sometimes this stuff gets pretty nasty, pretty awful actually.
