My name is Nigel. Jason Hammer is here 25 years since our nation was attacked. I can't believe it's been that long. And I say that every year, Hammer. I remember when it was one year. I remember when it was five years. I remember when it was ten years. And now it is 25 years, a significant number since 9-11.

**Jason Hammer** (0:33)
It's so wild that as each year goes by, I see more and more people who weren't born when the attack took place. You know, there's a lot of people that were not born when the attacks took place. And that's so wild to me because I remember it just like it was yesterday.

**Nigel** (0:52)
Or they were too young to remember.

**Jason Hammer** (0:54)
Right.

**Nigel** (0:55)
Five, six, seven, eight, you know.

However, and in many ways, it's like when we used to hear our parents or whoever talk about Pearl Harbor or the Kennedy assassination, they remember where they were at doing, you know, whatever they were doing at the moment, they remember it precisely. I was working at WZPL and I was just a part time scrub at that point. Just a little errand boy stunt boy, that kind of stuff. And next thing you know, I'm on the phones and I'm trying to get information. I'm calling the airports. I'm calling local colleges and universities. Who's open? Who's closed? I'm updating, you know, the website because the Internet was still relatively new kind of at this point.
That's what I was doing. Where were you?

**Nigel** (1:41)
I was as silly as it sounds, man. I was still in bed. I had a buddy call me and it's like, wake up, turn on the TV. And that's as simple and as stupid as it was.
And from there, I remember my life just being numb.
Not that anybody cares about how my life was affected by it. I'm just telling you my own reality. I got up and just was watching cable TV for the rest of the day up until I had to go in at X 103 at night. And it was.

**Jason Hammer** (2:22)
Did you have a show that night?

**Nigel** (2:24)
I had a show that night and I was told to keep it. Just just play the music. Don't take calls.
Don't be OK.

**Jason Hammer** (2:33)
Because I was working at a music station and we went to our news affiliate. Some music stations did go to their news affiliates.

**Nigel** (2:40)
We the news affiliates were on all day. And then by the time night, by the time I got there, like six or seven o'clock, we started playing music again. And they were just like, don't be your usual a-hole self. Just play music, jock the hits.

**Jason Hammer** (2:57)
Right. Right.

As it were. And it was like that for a couple of weeks.

So that was Jeff Pigeon, the first mention of the 9-11 attacks 25 years ago in WIBC. And people who forget don't understand. It was a beautiful, peaceful day up until then. It was a beautiful, sunshine, crisp September day in Indianapolis. The biggest story was that Michael Jordan was coming back for another comeback.
This would have been his second return to the NBA when he went to the Washington Wizards. Again, this was before the attacks on WIBC.

Good morning. It's 739 at WIBC. Vince Watchcourt is a sports director with me here this morning. And Vince will be talking all morning long about Michael Jordan coming back after that three-year retirement, that three-year layoff. And he has been working out, what, for the last several months.
