As always, Hammer, keeping an eye on that weather.
Man, the temperature just shot up pretty quick, and that of course is causing a risk of high winds, maybe some hail. I feel like, Hammer, that this season, there's not been as much severe weather as past, but when it does get severe, it gets bad.

**Hammer** (0:31)
And it feels like it's for multiple days. Like, we had a stretch there, mainly when I was in Ireland, but I was keeping track of what was happening here. We're like, every other day, there was a tornado watch, tornado warning for about a two week period.
Other than that, it's been a pretty chill weather time here in Central Indy.
But again, because the humidity and the weather are ramping up here, we're keeping our eye on a chance for some severe storms throughout the afternoon into the early evening. You heard the news earlier. Up until 9 p.m., there's a severe storm watch. Just a watch, not a warning or anything. Everybody calm down. But rest assured, when there is a warning, that God-awful noise will interrupt probably the most important thing we're talking about on this show.
And it's not just the God-awful noise, Nigel. It's the fact that after the God-awful noise, it takes whoever the EAS person is, like five minutes to say the first word. You hear static, like somebody's trying to send a fax in 1993

Like you're trying to download or upload AOL.

**Hammer** (1:45)
Right.

**Nigel** (1:46)
Trying to log on to AOL.

Like now, keep in mind, we can't control that by the law. We have to air the EAS system.
So it's not our fault. OK, if you can't understand what's going on or maybe your favorite part of the show gets cut off by the AAAAAAAAAT, just relax.

I know I'm about to blow out some sort of like a blow out my trachea, my larynx.
But no, that's probably going to happen at some point in the show today. As we like to do on Mondays, take a look at the Weekend Violence Index. This is something that the Fraternal Order Police puts out. So from Friday through Sunday, here in Central Indy, at least five people shot, one person stabbed. Now, most of those took place in a, like a 12-hour period from Saturday into Sunday. But it breaks down to an average, every 12 hours, somebody shot or stabbed Nigel.

Okay. Does it seem like it's as bad as it's been in the past?

**Hammer** (3:04)
Right. The problem is, that's actually a pretty good number. Like, I hate that that's good. Somebody is shot or stabbed once every 12 hours in Indy over the weekend. But compared to what we've seen in years past, I think that's pretty good. And look, we've had this conversation before, and maybe we can get into this when Guy Relford joins us a little bit later for Monday Gun Day.
I think a big part of why you're seeing the homicide numbers lower has nothing to do with Joe Hawks and Orion Mears. I think it's constitutional carry.
Since constitutional carry has passed in the state of Indiana, where more law abiding citizens feel emboldened to carry their weapon, to protect themselves and their family, homicide numbers are down. Now, this was like the worst fear of Orion Mears and some of the lobbyists going against this. Well, then everybody can just go out and buy a gun with no background check. Remember that lie, that narrative that was pushed out? It was completely false. You still have to pass the background check to get your firearm. Really, the only difference is you don't have to carry a piece of paper anymore that says you did it.

And more than likely, if you're somebody that's out in the middle of the night, shooting up the houses, shooting up the streets, shooting at random people, chances are you're not allowed to own a gun in the first place anyway. Right.

**Hammer** (4:31)
100%. That is such a great point.

**Nigel** (4:33)
So constitutional carry wouldn't matter. Oh, I blame constitutional carry for the uptick in shootings. Well, no, not really, because those people aren't allowed to have guns anyway.

**Hammer** (4:45)
Like, I know there are news partners now, but I'm just curious as to what Russ McQuaid thinks, because Russ is not a gun guy. He's a reporter for Fox 59 slash CBS 4, our news gathering partners. He's made it clear he's not a fan of guns and gun use, and he'll put some some long Facebook post out there. It's like 18 paragraphs that nobody wants to read that concludes with some sort of song lyric, like he's channeling his inner Jim Ursay. I get it.
