"American Pie" actor Thomas Ian Nicholas joins

I think this is going to be really cool, at Mad Hatter on Friday in Greenwood. They're having a screening of American Pie, and one of the stars of American Pie played the role of Kevin. Thomas Ian Nicholas will be there doing a little Q&A, maybe rocking out a little bit. Thomas, how are you doing, brother?
I'm doing great.

Oh, no, it's our honor. It's our privilege. And Nigel and I talk about this quite a bit, like American Pie may have been the last great raunchy teen sex comedy that this country really rallied and got behind. Do you think there's like a-

**Thomas Ian Nicholas** (0:52)
That's only because Seth Greene or Seth Rogan wasn't a teen when he did not show.

**Nigel** (0:57)
That's right. That's right. That's right.
Yeah. But man, it feels like films like that are kind of a dying breed, which I hate because I grew up watching films like that. What do you think when you see people react to a film you did back when you were a kid and come away laughing even today? What's your reaction when you see that?

**Thomas Ian Nicholas** (1:19)
You know, nostalgia is such an important thing for our mental health in today's day and age.
When we were growing up, it was like, oh, there go our parents talking about the good old days. But now it, I think it's this thing that we kind of all experience together and it puts a smile on our face, which with all the bills we have to pay and all the hustle and bustle we have to do and all the doom scrolling that robs us of our lives. A good hit in nostalgia is a nice moment. And getting into a theater to watch a film that came out 27 years ago is a way you can do that this Friday night. And I will be there to do a special Q&A and tell stories that I don't talk about in the interviews because I can't. No filming. Cause I will talk about stuff that will get me in trouble. So come listen to it. And I'm going to rock out afterwards. Acoustic set. So yeah, it's a good time. And I love being in Indiana.

Were you in or around the scene with the actual pie?
Were you on the set that day? Were you able to witness anything or the aftermath of the scene with the pie?

**Thomas Ian Nicholas** (2:37)
You know, I've auditioned for a lot of things in my life. I've auditioned for the pie at first, but I didn't get that role. So I went back in. They said, here, try this scene as Kevin.
And that one worked out better for me.

**Nigel** (2:50)
OK.
Thomas Ian Nicholas is with us. I can't believe it's been 27 years, dude. When you just said that, that made me feel so old, so geriatric. I remember going to the drive thru, watching the drive in, rather watching American Pie 27 years ago. Do you still talk to anybody from the film?

**Thomas Ian Nicholas** (3:13)
I do. Yeah, I mean, I did. I just did a comic con with Tara Reed and Mina Savari and Chris Owen, who would play the shermanator.
And yeah, so I still keep in touch with them. It's all a good group of people. I'm trying to think. I was just texting with with Eddie Kate Thomas about something. He played Finch. So, yeah, there's always like something, something going on. And I'll reach out to one of them. It's a good group of people.

**Nigel** (3:41)
Thomas, I think the last time I saw you, I was watching a Cubs game on the marquee network because I'm a big Cubs fan, right? I try to watch as many games as I can. And they had a special Rowan Gartner night where you were at the game. I think you threw the first pitch and you're sitting in the stands. Like, do more people associate you from American Pie or the Rookie of the Year film?

**Thomas Ian Nicholas** (4:04)
Well, it depends on where I am. And it's funny you mentioned that because I will actually be throwing out the first pitch and singing the seventh inning stretch this Saturday for my annual tradition, my 19th year in a row of doing that. And I was just there actually not with the Cubs, but with the Savannah Bananas. I got Henry Rowan Gardner got drafted. OK, and I now have Savannah Bananas stats. And so, yes, if I'm in and around a stone's throw from Chicago, I am known as Henry Rowan.
