Lemonada. It's 2002, and I'm literally racing through the jungle with my sister, Paige Mycoskie. We're contestants on a reality show called The Amazing Race.

**Paige Mycoskie** (0:15)
You know, I remember going days with only eating a loaf of bread.

**Blake Mycoskie** (0:20)
It was this gauntlet that set the pace for our adult lives. My sister and I would both go on to achieve a level of success we never could have imagined for ourselves. And Paige was right there with me for the earliest days of Tom's. I remember I was in Argentina. I was like, hey, I need a logo for the shoe. And you're like, give me a day. And then you designed the amazing Tom's logo. Do you remember how much you charged me?

**Paige Mycoskie** (0:44)
I think it was $500.

**Blake Mycoskie** (0:46)
I think it was the best $500 I ever spent.
Paige would go on to found her own iconic brand, Aviator Nation. What started as a sewing machine and an $8,000 bank loan has become one of the fastest growing fashion brands in the world, recently valued at over a billion dollars.

And so I started making clothes at night after work at the surf shop for myself. And then I would wear them to work. But the thing is I was making them for myself, but I realized I would go nights where I would not sleep. I was obsessed with it.

**Blake Mycoskie** (1:17)
In my darkest times, Paige was there for me. But it wasn't until this interview that I found out she also struggled in ways I never imagined.

**Paige Mycoskie** (1:26)
I just was battling extreme depression. I didn't want to see anyone.

**Blake Mycoskie** (1:31)
This interview is about believing in yourself and your passion, navigating the lowest points in life and the bond siblings share. Paige, welcome to the show.

**Paige Mycoskie** (1:50)
Thanks, Blake.

**Blake Mycoskie** (1:52)
Oh, this is exciting. This morning, we've had such a great day. We've done yoga. We got to golf. We went surfing, sauna and the cold plunge. And I just can't believe how long you can stay in the cold plunge. What is the secret?

**Paige Mycoskie** (2:07)
I mean, I don't know. I've always loved cold water. I think that for me, it's just a huge reset.
I think that you just have to really, like, only think about breathing. And I feel like that just kind of resets my mind and my body. And I don't know. I love it. I love the cold plunge. I think that you probably introduced me to it. Years ago. Years ago.

**Blake Mycoskie** (2:29)
But you've really stuck with it.

**Paige Mycoskie** (2:31)
But yeah. And you know, I was actually, when I was building the Hawaii store, I was jogging down the beach and there were these guys sitting in like deep freezers. And they were surfers. And I was like, what are you guys doing? I remember connecting it. I think you had talked about it. And they were, that's what they did. Like to, you know, get rid of the inflammation in their body or after surfing. And so I actually bought on like Facebook Marketplace or something, a deep freezer for like a couple hundred bucks.

**Blake Mycoskie** (2:56)
Oh my gosh.

**Paige Mycoskie** (2:57)
And it was so hot. I didn't have air conditioning in our place in Hawaii that I was living in while we were building the store. And so I would sit in that thing, freezing cold water, like multiple times throughout the day. And it just gave me energy.
So anyway, yeah, I feel like I can do like 20 minutes in it.

**Blake Mycoskie** (3:13)
Oh my God. I mean, this is great. Already, we're not even like 90 seconds into the interview and I'm getting a story out of you I've never heard before. Cool. This is amazing.

**Paige Mycoskie** (3:20)
Yeah.

**Blake Mycoskie** (3:20)
Now, okay, you started doing it because it like reduces inflammation and it felt good as a reset. But you told me over the past couple years, it's really been something that's helped you with anxiety. Why do you think that is?

**Paige Mycoskie** (3:31)
I don't know.

**Blake Mycoskie** (3:32)
And how does it reset that?

**Paige Mycoskie** (3:33)
You know, the thing is, I feel like a lot of people, everybody needs these dopamine hits, you know? And obviously a lot of people are on social media and getting the likes and all the things. And I'm really not on social media very often. I'm just not into it. It distracts me. It takes up too much of my time.
But I think that when I do the cold plunge, I feel like I've accomplished something, you know? And so I think that if I can get in there and it's like after a few minutes of doing that, I feel like I started my day with this accomplishment, you know, of something that was hard to do. And so I just like immediately have a dopamine hit and I feel good about, you know, whatever I'm doing from there. So I think it's just like giving myself like an immediately dopamine hit. Yeah.
