Yes, we Go Get'em here on this Monday morning after a very nice weekend where we feel a hell of a lot better. Welcome to the Go Get'em as we will talk here about the New York Yankees and their three-game sweep and how they head into the break on a four-game winning streak. And again, I know some people immediately hear the tone and I'm not miserable, so therefore we're going, oh my God, it's only four games. Yeah, I know. And it's against the Washington Nationals. I know.
They were 500 Let's just start there because I'm going to give you a couple of pushback shilly things because it's in my nature to do it. It's not the entire point of this podcast. We could do a real quick one. The idea that we ever cared about the record against teams over 500 is silly to me. It was always a dopey record because it changes with the wind and this is the best example by far. The Nats were two games over 500 heading into the series. Because the Yankees swept them and knocked them under 500, they actually have now a worse record against teams over 500 than they did the day before.
They were 2-0 against the Nats who were above 500, then they beat them for a third time knocking the Nats under 500 and you'd lost two wins against teams over 500 If that doesn't explain to you how stupid that stat is and that record against 500 teams, it's a guiding point, I guess. You could look at it and try, if it was extreme one way or the other, maybe. If they were 0-17 against over 500 teams or 0-25, okay. And if they're 31-2, okay. But the Yankees right now are 500, that record changes with the wind. Who gives a damn? They beat, here's another shilly thing just to get us started. And again, Ryan, you don't have to make a clip of this. I'm not trying to make this about the podcast. But I also find it interesting and this is why sometimes I get called the shill because I point these things out when nobody else does. I've heard that the Nats have the best offense in baseball a million times over the last two days. Nats, oh, they shut down the best offense in baseball, best offense in baseball, best offense in baseball. And I'm not going to disagree, but my point is, why were we saying that? We're saying that for one reason. We're saying the Nats have the best offense in baseball for one reason. They've scored the most runs. But if you say the Yankees have the best offense in baseball while the Yankees are scoring the most runs, it's an outrage and you don't know what you're looking at and runs don't mean everything. But we just casually say it about other teams that lead. And that's all my point is, no one delves into the bottom of the Nats order and no one delves into whether or not they come through in the clutch or have big high total scoring runs and then low total scoring run games. Nobody calls them a bully offense. Nobody goes in to break it down because they don't care because they're not Nats fans, which I get. But I'm just saying when we talk about the Nats, we have thrown it out there casually.
Best offense in baseball because they've scored the most runs. So just remember that the next time, and if the Yankees ever lead the baseball and run scored, that it's okay to call them a good offense. Okay? Now that we can move on from the two shilly things that I just felt I needed to get out.
Still not throwing a parade. I don't know if you saw my hit last night on Channel 11 I know all of you watch. Last night on Channel 11, when asked to give a grade for this team, and we'll do that later, I gave a B minus. Like, it's still not an overly positive, it's four games in and a lot of things you'll like. The comeback nature of these wins and really the starting pitching. The starting pitching and the bullpen, just the pitching in general because the Nats do have a really good offense. They do lead the league in runscored and Wood is an absolute beast who torched them multiple times in this game, in this series. And yet, for the most part, they performed really well.
