The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle

July 23, 2026

Craig Carton and Chris McMonigle break down everything happening in New York sports on the Carton Show. The Yankees are struggling at the plate, Aaron Judge's return remains uncertain, and Craig says Brian Cashman has to make major moves before the MLB Trade Deadline.

All right, 888-808-1019.
Lots cooking here, Carton Show with Big Mac. I'll get back to your calls here as well, as we go through the summer weeks, getting closer to the New York Yankees on August 3rd, of course, and the trade deadline. I imagine they're gonna be very active because the Yankees' offense right now stinks. Beat the Pirates all well and good, you take two out of three. Two out of three, after losing two out of three to the Dodgers over the weekend. So good to win a series, obviously. But the Yankees...

**Chris McMonigle** (0:33)
Especially at home, where they've been so bad as of late.

**Craig Carton** (0:36)
The Yankees actually lost nine, it was 11 out of 13, nine out of 10, remember what it was?

**SPEAKER_3** (0:40)
It was nine out of 10 at one point, yeah.

**Craig Carton** (0:41)
Yeah, which has not happened frequently in the history or the annals of the Yankees.
But Stanton's supposedly coming back pretty soon, have that on good authority. Judge, no answer on Judge. And I'm starting to think that we have seen the last of Aaron Judge. It's not worth even talking about because he either comes back or he doesn't come back. In the meantime, I think when it comes to the trade deadline, the Yankees have to make moves assuming he's not coming back. And then if he does, great! You'll find a way to figure it all out.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:11)
Yeah, no, I agree. To me, they have to add, I would love to add a big time bet. I would love to be the catcher. We'll see what they do. But I would operate as if Stanton's not coming back. You can't operate as if Judge is not coming back because you can't replace him. But you can replace Stanton. There's some different ways to replace Stanton.
But they need something, but they need him back in the worst way. And they need to attack this deadline and get multiple players at multiple spots. So it is gonna be one of those trade deadlines where Brian Cashman is gonna have to do what he does. He gets four or five guys a lot at these deadlines and some of them are gonna have to click. But again, I think the pitching has put them in a position where even if the offense isn't as good as we hoped it would be, they still have a chance to win games.

**Craig Carton** (1:53)
And you did see The Odyssey.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:55)
I did.

**Craig Carton** (1:56)
During your time off this week?

**Chris McMonigle** (1:59)
Yes. I saw it Tuesday night.

**Craig Carton** (2:04)
Yeah, I'm sorry?

**Chris McMonigle** (2:05)
I saw it Tuesday night.

**Craig Carton** (2:06)
No, because you were saying how you couldn't come to work on Tuesday, but you had time to go see The Odyssey.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:10)
Yes.

**Craig Carton** (2:11)
And did you see it in an IMAX theater? I did not. Oh, aren't you supposed to see one of those movies?

**Chris McMonigle** (2:16)
Yeah, well, listen, it's shot apparently in IMAX 70mm. There's 25 theaters in the country. I think one is here at Lincoln Center that has the special IMAX that you're supposed to... It's filmed on what you would love to see it on.

**Craig Carton** (2:31)
See a bigger screen, more depth to it, whatever.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:33)
Right, but that's a specific 70mm, the ability. Other, there's more IMAX theaters that are just big. It's just a big screen. I would have loved to have seen it that way, but the timing didn't work out. And the seats were sold out. Now you gotta buy seats to these things. You can't go. Like the seats are terrible. I don't want to sit front row of an IMAX.

**Craig Carton** (2:51)
Why don't you just get one of those boxes where you get every movie in your house?

**Chris McMonigle** (2:55)
Because I don't want to watch it on my... The whole point... Why?

**SPEAKER_4** (2:58)
You didn't go to IMAX.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:59)
This is a movie theater experience. Even in the theater, it's better than IMAX.

**Craig Carton** (3:01)
So what did you have to tell me to do? PVC pipe.

**SPEAKER_4** (3:04)
I'm not doing that.

**Craig Carton** (3:04)
A white bed sheet.

**SPEAKER_4** (3:05)
Stop.

**Craig Carton** (3:06)
Out back. No. And create your own movie theater in the backyard.

**SPEAKER_3** (3:10)
It's sound. I'm not watching those sheets.

**SPEAKER_4** (3:11)
Well, get a little surround sound speaker setup.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:15)
That's fine for, I don't, you know, I don't know, Toy Story 5 Summer Night Movies? Fine. But I'm going to see The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan.
