Yankees kick ball around in series loss to Reds | 'Go Get 'Em'

And go get them we shall. Welcome to the Go Get Em Podcast. Chris McMonigle here with you after a very disappointing series loss to the Reds, who seemed to have the Yankees number over the last couple of years. And it always seems to be right around like the 4th of July, late June, early July. I don't know why. I remember being at my buddy's house. We go to my buddy's house every year for the 4th. And I feel like I see them playing the Reds. I didn't double check that. But it's always this time of year. And they seem to have the Yankees number. And the Yankees lose what I would say is probably the first disappointing series since Judge went down. They did lose the Cleveland series as soon as Judge went down home. But it was right after Judge went down, Cleveland is fairly good.
And then since then, they played well. This series to me was disappointing. I saw a lot of things I didn't like in this series. And we'll talk about it, obviously, as they fall after the game. One performance, that's the other thing. I was there Friday night. Yes, if you listen to the show, I was in the owner's suite. I didn't meet the owner, nor did I meet Brian Cashrin. That would have been cool. I could have told him how much you all love him.
But watching that performance with my son, and watching Kam Schlitler just absolutely shut down the Reds, and the Yankees have a ho-hum, five-nothing victory, I did not expect to lose both of the next two games and not be able to take this series. Some ugly defense, some things to get to. But overall, the first time that you're starting to see the injuries take hold with the team. That was my main theme from this weekend. You're starting to see some of the issues with this team, now that it's not only just Judge Grisham, who apparently is looking good and running well, and they expect him back sooner than they thought.
But it's him, it's Grisham, it's Stanton, and then they decide to do something and push the rotation back. Which I think, we talk so much about the urgency, and maybe this team is different in ways than other Yankee teams have been. I think it's a little overblown, but I think we saw, because I think urgency is always a part of the Yankees. I know people don't agree. But I would say that's an interesting, you know, it's a move that makes sense in the middle of, what is it, a 16 game stretch. But the Yankees did a couple of things in this series that indicated these games weren't of paramount. It's true. It's true.
To push back the rotation, while understandable, Cole's coming off Tommy John. Rodin is coming off elbow surgery. Weathers is throwing more innings than he's ever thrown in his life. You know, Warren, off of the first year, last year, of throwing more innings than he's ever thrown in his life.
You can understand wanting to give these guys as much of a time to regather themselves going through 16 straight games as possible. But when you throw in Rodriguez, who is your second pitching prospect, your second best pitching prospect Brian LaGranhe, and you throw him into a situation here against Burns, who's one of the better pitchers in baseball, that is a difficult task to try and win the game. Now, having said that, I thought they did a decent enough job against him and knocked him out after five, only giving up the one run, yes. And that's not, you know, the Yankees had an opportunity to do damage against the bullpen, had multiple chances. Obviously, that's the story of the series as well. for 24th, runners in scoring position. And look, I know many Yankee fans want to buy into that narrative is that's their main problem. And that's what and listen, you got to hit with runners on if you want to win games. Of course. And that's what in the postseason, they will have to do that.

But the offense has been really good with runners in scoring position.

Over the, even without judge. This year, they've been good. In the last three weeks, they've been good. It was an for 24 stretch since the ninth inning of Friday night. These last two games against the Reds, they were for 24 with runners in scoring position. It happens over the course of 162 It's disappointing. It's frustrating to watch. It's frustrating when Wells comes back and he's just as bad as before he left. Although it's only one game and kind of unfair, but it's unfair to say anything else besides he stinks. So I just think it was one of those series they didn't play well. Maybe a little bit of going through the motions for the first time, which is something I don't like. And then the organization made a decision to push back the rotation and give themselves less of a chance to win. And then when you do things like DH Bellinger, and that's where you really start to see some real issues with all of the injuries and specifically the Grisham one, because they're going through a lot, right? Bellinger's played, I think, damn near every day. Maybe has an off day here and off day there, but he's playing a ton. They need him right now. They need to lean on Bellinger. Did not have great offensive. I didn't think he had a great end of the last series. I don't think he swung the bat all that well in this series of times. I have no problem trying to give him a day off, a half day off. They need them. They got to rely on them. You want to give them a DH day? Fine. The outfield defense right now, considering Dominguez is out there every day pretty much. And if you're going to sit Bellinger, you're going to have to play either Schumann or as we saw Caballero in the outfield. Caballero, Jones and Grisham is an awful defensive outfield. It's an awful defensive outfield. Now Jones is okay in center, but just defensively, just what they've thrown out in the series, not very good. Not very good. Threw the ball around a little bit.
