Now, here's Chris McMonigle.
I've been going to get them, Boone. I've been getting them. I got my 4th of July plastic cup. I'm going to get them. You need to go get them.
Sorry.
Welcome to the Go Get Them podcast. Chris McMonigle here with you off of a series loss to the Minnesota Twins, and it feels about as bad as it could possibly feel. There's no two ways around it.
Again, maybe I overthink it with the amount of crap I get on social media. Maybe I shouldn't view it like you all think this way. But yes, I tend to have a more positive outlook than a lot of Yankee fans. Two things can be true in the moment. As we could break down the series, as the Yankees get their ass kicked in the final two games of the series against Minnesota Twins, I think it's more of a big picture rock bottom podcast than it is breaking down individual things in these three games. And obviously the big games coming up against Tampa Bay. So let me just tell you where my headspace is, and then we'll take your comments and we'll talk about it.
Ryan will monitor some of the comments. I'll try and look at more comments today. Because again, I feel like this is a sort of just overall, where are the Yankees in this moment? Because the next four games, and this isn't hyperbole, could determine their season. I honestly believe that. Now, maybe that's a bit much, and they could win the next four games and then be terrible, or they could lose the next four games and then have a great couple months. And that's kind of where I am as a fan. I'm pissed. Both things can be true. I do not think that the season is over. I do not think they are necessarily doomed to follow the same script they have had for the last couple of years. I do not think the manager needs to be fired. I do not think that the season is over. But I'm pissed. I am furious.
This team sucks right now in every way possible. And they just embarrassed themselves against the one team that they have treated like a doormat since the beginning of time, the Minnesota Twins. And to have the twins come in here and not just win two of three. Now, I know Beck was on the Mount Saturday. And it wasn't Rodin who's now injured. We'll go through all the different things. Like, I don't necessarily, again, Beck stinks. And he got lit up and didn't give them too much of an opportunity to win the baseball game. Doval doesn't help.
The offense not coming through. Paul Goldschmidt being terrible. The offense being terrible doesn't help today. They faced Joe Ryan. He's an excellent starting pitcher. And yeah, right now, with the way this lineup is going, they're not going to hit excellent pitching, right? They beat Scubal once and Mays once. It was a miracle, right? But that was before this ungodly 10 games where they're one and nine. But they're not going to hit Joe Ryan. They're not going to hit him. They're not good enough right now to hit really good pitching. That's not an excuse. I'm not saying it's okay. I'm not saying that explains this entire 10 games because it doesn't. But really, if they were going to win this series, they probably needed to win the first two games and they didn't give themselves much of a chance with Beck on the mound. Is that an excuse? If you want to take it as such by all means, take it as an excuse. I'm not making one. I don't think. I'm just stating a fact. They threw a kid in there who's not very good and he gave up three runs in the first. Doesn't mean they couldn't have won the game. They could have. They could have still won the game.
But they were behind the eight ball with Rodin's injury. Rodin's injury, everyone getting sick from food poisoning. Still talking about that with Weathers today. It is just an absolute mess. So yeah, that's where I am. I don't know where you are. You can let me know. I don't believe that this 10 game stretch dictates that they cannot win. I don't believe this means that they are doomed for the year. I do not believe the manager has to go or they won't win. I don't believe those things. But right now, those things are possible. Don't get me wrong, it's possible this team loses in the playoffs. Only one team will not lose in the playoffs. So it's very possible, even likely, that they will lose sometime in the playoffs before capturing their 28th championship. That's likely. But it doesn't mean we know it today because of how bad they've played. But they have played awful. What is it? 25?
