Hello and go get em we shall, manager Aaron Boone. How are we doing everybody? Welcome to the Go Get Em Podcast with me, Chris McMonigle live from WFAN today.
I don't even want to tell you the evening and morning I have had.
This was supposed to start at 12 o'clock. I've been unable to even reach out and tweet at it. I have no phone. My phone's not taking a charge. It died this morning. I just thought I must have plugged it in wrong overnight. Turns out just not taking a charge. So I have no phone. I'm unable to get into my email.
I didn't do it last night because I haven't been feeling well. I don't know if you saw my hit last night on Channel 11 I was kind of coughing through that. So I've been coughing a little bit. And late at night, it's worse than I just thought. Doing the podcast, I'd be coughing through it. So we decided not to do last night. Was going to do today. Now I have no phone. I had to go to the doctor early this morning.
I stopped at a place to try and fix my phone today. The weight was ridiculous. So here I am, ready to do a Yankee podcast, ready to do a Go Get Him off of a split of a two game set against the Boston Red Sox. We'll forget all the nonsense I've been going through. I'm probably sweating because I was running here.
And you can imagine, it doesn't take much running for me to sweat. Ha ha ha, what the hell, why not? All right. So listen, a huge win yesterday. A big series, a lot to get to. Again, limited time here. I don't know if there's even, you know, with these two games, we don't have to break down everything about it. But some main talking points, and there's plenty of them, right? First off, Judge. Let's just start there because it's the most important.
And just the idea of the medical issues with the New York Yankees specifically because you got the Wells injury as well.
Judge, we talked about it. We had a pretty much a Judge reaction pod on the last pod.
We found out a little bit more specifics about it since then. We know when he heard it in April against the Astros on a diving play. It leads to questions about him in the outfield. It leads to questions about the medical staff. It leads to a lot of questions. So let's just go through it real quick. Obviously, that sucks that it was a month ago. And then Brian Cashman, when he spoke, pretty much admitted and so did Judge that running into the wall and some of the other things that have happened impacted it and probably made it worse. And now this is not the only time, right? Judge obviously going back to 2019, breaks his rib diving in the outfield, goes through the rest of the season, goes through the postseason. He wasn't even that bad in that postseason. And then at the beginning of 2020, they recognize, well, he's still dealing with some pain. Let's take a look. And it's a broken rib as well as lung issue. So like, and I know we're gonna crush the Yankees for it. And there have been certain circumstances. I think it's overblown, but I understand the issues. Like, I think the Rizzo one is the one that really jumps out at me as a mess. Like, the Rizzo issue was a mess. He was playing great. He runs into Tatis, you know, from that moment on, he was terrible. And yes, he started passing all the concussion tests. He started passing everything. When it was as bad as it was, with a guy who clearly had a point, you can pinpoint, had a head injury, ran into someone. From that moment on, terrible. The Yankees should have been much more on top of that consistently, consistently checking him because he looked lost at the plate for months. Right? Aaron Judge slumped, but still, you know, was having an OPS of 900 up until the last week and a half or so before finally acknowledging the injury. Judge just looked like he was a tick off. I didn't notice anything where we thought he was injured to the point. Now again, I'm not with him every day. And he's got to be more open and the Yankees players have to be more open with the organization because if Judge says I'm in pain, I know and I get his understanding and his thought process. G is out, right? Max Fried is out. G actually, Giancarlo leaves in that same series with the calf injury. So I get it. You got to, you know, you're the captain of the team. You're making 40 million dollars a year. And you want to be there to make sure your team wins every game and gets into the postseason and has a chance to win a championship. I get it.
