And Go Get'Em we shall. What's going on, everybody? Welcome to the Go Get'Em podcast. I am your host, Chris. And we are feeling a lot better than we did the last two podcasts as we round out the four game set. The Yankees, in the most unpredictable way, end up splitting the series, which again, and I told you yesterday, so I'm not gonna do it. I told you yesterday.
I'm not gonna be excited with this podcast if the Yankees get the split. They desperately needed it, but I wasn't gonna be excited. And I'm not excited, nor should any Yankee fan be excited, but I do think they didn't just win the game in the manner in which they won it.
It was a better game than just managing a win somehow, someway to get the split. We saw a lot of things that you'd like and that we desperately needed to see. Now, again, it only, if they go out and get swept, they'll lose two out of three to Washington this weekend. I'm not gonna feel as good about this game. And if the offense goes right back into the tank after today, we're not gonna feel as good. But overall, what happened in this game and to go into it with the bullpen game for the Yankees, starting with Blackburn and against Drew Rasmussen, who has absolutely owned the Yankees and is an all-star pitcher and having one of the better seasons in the American League this year, to enter that game off of the two previous nights, which really for me, and I know, you know, maybe we'll give a shill and a shame and all that stuff.
So we'll talk a little bit overall on this four-game set, which was clearly the most important series of the season so far.
You know, last night's the only game that really bothered me. I don't know if you could tell, I was doing the pod after every single game. The second game was frustrating. I didn't think the strikeouts mattered that much. They did score some runs. They had 11 hits.
I was really frustrated with Warren giving up home runs to the bottom of the order and then the bottom of the order beat them. But even that game, again, I didn't leave that game like super pissed off. Last night, after that game with Cole and the offense being shut out, that game pissed me off. That game was really a frustrating game.
And then today, obviously, leading into today, and you know me, I'm as positive as Yankee fan get, really, for the most part. I'm a somewhat positive Yankee fan. And even I went into today with real low expectations and a real fear that the Yankees would bury themselves here. Because I know it's one game, but it's a two game swing in the standings. And that's why I still think, like just overall, before we get into the game, it's, I feel like I need to say this again, like I understand going in, the Yankees had already lost four of five played, right? So they lost four or five played. And going into it, if you get a split, they're down four games in the division, five in the lost column, I think, right? But it's four games, you're down four, you're heading into a big midseason series, four games set on the road, you only have another four games with them after this.
You're not playing well, you want to go in there and you want to gain ground, right? So I get that. And you need to win three out of four if you want to have a chance of winning the tiebreaker against the Rays, because the odds of winning the next four games, all of them sweeping at Yankee Stadium, are limited to sweep before game set. So I can understand the thought process of split isn't good enough, but just the way the Yankees are playing, the idea they went into one of these games with a bullpen game, the way they were swinging the bats, Tampa Bay was eight and two in their last 10 They played great in that ballpark. You just couldn't get buried. You couldn't come in here and be six games out with the Rays already clinching the tiebreaker. So ultimately, it would be like seven games out, like seven games out going into the All-Star break with no judge in sight and we'll get to the stuff Brian Cashman had to say today. Like that's a different scenario than winning that game, getting the split and yes, you didn't gain any ground. But ultimately, you went in there. I think they proved they can win. I understand it was a split and they struck out a ton. But I don't leave this series feeling like the Rays played better than the Yankees or dominated this series in any way. In fact, I mean, considering today was a 12-4 beat down, the Yankees probably had the better of play most of the time in the series. I'm not, believe me, I'm not trying to brag or say, hey, the Yankees outplayed them because I don't think they did all that much, but it certainly wasn't the other way. It felt like that after last night, that the Rays had had their way with the Yankees despite the first game of the series victory. Now, I don't feel that way. I feel like the series was even. And yes, as the team that's leading, you say, hey, I took a split. I didn't, they didn't gain any ground. But the Rays had a chance to bury the Yankees here. The Rays had a chance while the Yankees are down, while the Yankees are struggling because I would hope, because if Judge isn't back the next time they play in September, Yankees have bigger problems than winning the freaking division. So I would hope that Judge is back the next time they see the Rays. Who knows where the Rays are, who knows where the Yankees are, who knows what the Yankees look like, who knows what the Rays look like. This was an opportunity while the Yankees were in the midst of one of the worst offensive stretches in the history of the franchise, for the Rays to really gain ground, take three out of four in a building that they win in, a home advantage that's as good as any in baseball, and really put a hurting on the Yankees. And heading into today, I thought that was going to be the outcome. And for them to step up and have that third inning, and have this offensive performance, again, I'm not thrilled, I'm not telling you, wow, what a great four days. But it's a massive difference than losing three out of four. And normally, I would like to have a little bit more of beat my chest with the New York Yankees. In the moment, it's impossible to feel that way. In the moment, if we're just being honest and realistic, they're playing terribly and they're down a bunch of guys. So again, we're going to go through all the games. I'm going to tell you some guys who had big time games. I'm going to talk about big time moments. I might even sound excited at times. But this is not a great four days.
