Yankees CRUSHED by Phillies after losing Cody Bellinger | 'Go Get 'Em'

And go get'em we shall. Welcome to the Go Get'em Podcast. Let me fix the camera a little bit with me, Chris McMonigle, as the Yankees lose the final game of the series, but take two out of three from Philadelphia. And obviously, it comes with a price and the Bellinger injury, which, I mean, probably is the most impactful thing to come out of this, especially considering Tampa Bay swept Cleveland, and they actually lost the game in the standings during these three games. But overall, like, I come out of this outside of the injury to Bellinger, and I come out of this series feeling pretty good. I mean, the offense still stinks. I don't think that's changing. I think we understand, like, I think we understand the offense isn't getting any better. Grisham is in a bad funk, but again, I'm much higher on Grisham than I see from Yankee fans. He's in a bad slump right now. He's two for his last 30, so I can't argue with that. He's in a miserable slump. He's hit the ball hard a couple of times with bad luck, like he did earlier in the year, but he's struggling. Outside of that, Rice tonight kind of hit a homerun, but the offense still stinks, and the offense is going to stink until they make changes to it, and that's either getting guys back healthy, and instead they're going the wrong way and losing guys.
But until they get Judge back, until they get Stanton back, until they make any kind of moves at the deadline, the offense is just not very good. We could say it every week. We do. Watching these games, the offense isn't very good. It's pretty freaking awful. But they pitched their ass off in the series. And I thought this was a big series coming in to take on a Philadelphia team that has cooled off a little bit as of late, but has been surging obviously since hiring Don Mattingly. And you saw them, you know, it's actually a very similar type team, right? Their offense should be better than it is. And the Yankees, really outside of tonight, where they exploded off of Will Warren, who was awful tonight, held the offense down to one run in the first two games of the series.
And they make mistakes defensively. Turner sucks at shortstop.
They're overrunning pop-ups foul.
It's funny because I honestly think the Phillies and the Yankees look very much alike, honestly. A lot of the same faults and a lot of the same traits. Good starting pitching, a dominant closer, but not really as good a bullpen as the Yankees, but just a similar team. But going into the series against Philadelphia, I thought the first game of the series had real playoff atmosphere. I thought the crowd was great. They had a great pitchers duel, watching Cam Schlittler and Lizardo pitch the way they pitched in the first game of the series.
And then the bullpen does its job. So look, we know what the offense is. And despite that, they've been winning games. They've done a nice job. They sweep Washington. They lose two out of three to the Dodgers, but they beat Pittsburgh two out of three. They beat Philadelphia here two out of three.
So it's just about winning games and staying afloat until they make the necessary changes this team needs to be made. And we'll probably do a trade deadline thing and focus on some of the different aspects because names come and go, right? We had Shangalier is now he heard his name. There's Abrams all of a sudden, who's hot as a firecracker, who's having an incredible run here after the All-Star break with seven home runs and he's doing incredible. Is he still available? Is that something the Yankees want to do? That's a name now I've seen bandied around. There's even some right field option, some outfield options now that Bellinger is down. I think that's a move you're probably going to see quick. Some sort of outfield who can hit left-handed pitching, like a Randall Gritchick. I could see someone like that being brought here quickly. But overall, again, we'll go through the games a little bit. I'll give you a shiller shame as we'll talk about who's the best player of the series, the worst player of the series. But what jumps out to me is the pitching and this bullpen. That has been excellent. We talk about the bullpen a lot. It's funny, it went from the one area of the team that we thought for sure was the biggest weakness and something that was going to have to be massively attended to at the trade deadline. And now, it's the strength of the team. Yeah, Doval who actually pitched well in tonight's game and got three strikeouts and came in with runners on and got out of a jam. But Doval stinks, we know that. You can't trust him as far as you can throw him. That's, I think that's settled. I don't know if there's anything he could do between now and the trade deadline, certainly to make me feel like there shouldn't be a move that at least gets a reliever to take his place going forward. You know who Yarbrough is and, you know, outside of Yarbrough and Doval, it was Bird, but he's been gone and Chevelli's been great. So you look at the back end of that bullpen, you look at Bednar, you look at Hedrick, you look at Blackburn, like that's the strength of the team. The best part of this team is the back end of the bullpen. And that's stunning, quite frankly. And it's a complete departure from what we thought. And that doesn't mean I still wouldn't go out and get a reliever. I've been saying this, I still think they could use one more guy who can give you an inning, whether it's the seventh, eighth or even ninth. If Mason Miller is available, I'm still all about going out, because that's the closure for the next three years. But the pitching in today's, in this series, completely shut down Philadelphia in two out of three. And with only scoring one run and three runs, the Yankees take two out of three. And obviously, the biggest story coming out of it is the Bellinger injury. Now, he goes down, legging out that double.
