Ah, yes, it is the VSiN Weekend Morning Line, a good Saturday one and all, late July. Marc Malusis filling in this Saturday. Jared Moore, our producers. We take you right up until high noon East Coast time for the next three hours, and we set the table for what's going on and what's transpiring in the worldwide of, obviously, from a gambling perspective, handicapping perspective, the great world of sports. Rob Donaldson will join us later on the program. Ty Butler, Ryan Reynolds, Eric Cohen, do a little SEC football, as Cole Thompson from SEC and Filtered will join us a little later on in the program as well. So let's get it going, obviously, with the big news that came down yesterday, and that is right before noon East Coast time. We've got the last decision from Lebron James, that he is now going to be signing up and signing a two-year contract. Very, very team-friendly, not looking in, hit social media, that he's going to be signing with the Philadelphia 76ers. And to be honest with you, I was not surprised.
I really was not.
I had talked about it on a number of different programs over the course of the last couple of weeks, that I thought if there was a team outside of, say, San Antonio that made the most sense for Lebron James, it would be the Philadelphia 76ers. It would not be Miami with Bam Adebayo, and obviously, Giannis Antetokounmpo. It would not be going back home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but if the draw was an Akron kid going back home to finish out his career in Cleveland, Ohio, you could understand that.
If there was a team, I thought he had to go east. I really did.
I understand there's some other storylines that come into play, and some other reports that he was trying to get Kyrie Irving to join him in Cleveland, but the Dallas Mavericks were not open to the idea of dealing Kyrie, who obviously was out this past season with the torn ACL, that it was Philadelphia. Listen, I think from a Lebron perspective, here's where it hits. Number one is, for all those critics out there of Lebron James, I mean, listen, what we have seen, and this is not a goat conversation, this is not an argument, but about where he stands in the pantheon of the all-time greats in the National Basketball Association, or if you are a fan of, say, Michael Jordan, you say to yourself, well, I mean, it's just Michael, and then it's everybody else.
For Lebron to be able to do it and carry on his brilliance for as long as he's been able to do so, it's just downright remarkable, right? So you could be critical of the drama, you could be critical of that he always wants the attention, that he's played pseudo GM, that he's used his power, all of these things, the brilliance that he has been able to carry himself on an NBA court, for as long as he's been able to do it, we're never gonna see that ever, ever again in the course of our lifetimes. I mean, to come into the league at 18 and now to be in his early 40s, and I think he turns 42 years old in December, he has been remarkable. And his impact on the NBA is unquestioned. And here's where I give him credit. Listen, you know, he went to Miami initially and taken his talents to South Beach because he wanted to win and was frustrated in Cleveland. Then he went back to Cleveland because he had unfinished business. And then after he won an NBA title there, he wanted to live out West and join the Los Angeles Lakers. And he's never going to be among the Lakers greats, right? And he grew frustrated and they grew frustrated by him. And obviously, there was the party of the ways this summer. And now obviously wants to close out his career and wants an opportunity to go out there and win. And when you look at the complexion of the NBA, if you want to win and you're an older star, it's not Golden State.
