Matt, the Casey Mize experiment, not off to a great start. We talked about his first start as a member of the San Diego Padres, gave up eight runs on nine hits, and here it is second start with the Padres. Christian Yelich just tagged him for a two-run homer. Brewers lead two to nothing, top of the second inning in San Diego, and Logan Henderson, his first inning scoreless, one hit, no strikeouts, so the Brewers lead two to nothing out in San Diego, and Luis Lara just got a base hit as well. So Brewers off to a good start here. We'll talk about their division rival, the Chicago Cubs. Bottom of the hour as Alex Cohen, one of the play-by-play voices of the Cubs, will join us here on the program. The New York Mets have pulled off an upset, and they win 7-5 tonight. The total goes over very quickly in this one. He had a grand slam in the first inning, and they end up getting a win by a final score of 7-5. And right before we went to break, we were curious, would the Red Sox pull off and come back to get the win?
Answer, no. 2-1 the final score.
**Matt Youmans** (1:25)
Red Sox lose again. Biggest disappointment in baseball the last three days.
**Tim Murray** (1:30)
Matt, it took, they lost three times over a span of 30 games, and now they've lost three games in three days.
**Matt Youmans** (1:37)
That's baseball, Susan. The Red Sox were 27-3 and now 0-3, losing two to the A's and one to the J's. But that's why we always say bet on streaks, not against streaks in baseball. And that's another reminder.
Red Sox tonight, just lifeless offensively.
Pretty good start from Sunny Gray. Not great, but I thought really good again, and not enough tonight. We'll see what Tarek Skubal does for the Dodgers in his second start. That's our game of the night, and that's what, about eight minutes away in LA.
**Tim Murray** (2:11)
Sandy, excuse me, the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have, as you just mentioned, lost eight of nine. And right now, they are sitting as minus 270 favorites. Tomorrow night, Blake Snell makes his return to the Dodgers, where they are also minus 270 favorites.
**Matt Youmans** (2:27)
I'd be much more excited to bet against Blake Snell than I would be to bet against Skubal. And like you said, Skubal has not been dominant, but Blake Snell is one of those guys that he needs a lot of work. He's typically a bet against pitcher in the first half of the season. He warms up in the second half, heading into the playoffs. He can be one of the best pitchers in baseball, but he has not had a lot of innings and I still feel like it's the first half of the season for Blake Snell.
He was down in Oklahoma City, I believe, pitching a few days ago.
And I bet I will look at the innings prop for Blake Snell tomorrow night. I bet he goes no more than five. And if you're going to look to bet against the Dodgers, I think tomorrow night would be the better bet instead of tonight. By the way, the Royals are going with Noah Cameron tonight. Cameron, a decent pitcher. He's got over 123 innings, 116 strikeouts, a whip of 129, ERA of 437 That's who the Royals are going to counter, a scuba with tonight's Noah Cameron, the lefty. And I'm not going to lay the run and a half with the Dodgers here. I'm not going to bet against them. I'm definitely not going to lay the run and a half over the, and during the month of August, the Dodgers rank 25th in Major League Baseball in runs, and they're just not getting much done lately. We'll see tonight if they do, but if, if the Dodgers do bust loose tonight, it's not going to surprise me, but I'm not going to bet on it. That's the bottom line. I did not bet any baseball tonight, did you?
**SPEAKER_1** (4:07)
No, I did not either.
**Tim Murray** (4:09)
Eyes on football, baby, ready to rock and roll.
But quick update, Scubal, last start, six strikeouts, six innings, so that's 18 outs. Props tonight, Matt, over under 19 and a half outs recorded. Pretty high, that's six and two thirds innings. And over under seven and a half strikeouts is the number. It's actually juice to the over. So we will see what we get from Scubal, our game of the night about to get underway. Once again, other co-game of the night, if you will, the San Diego Padres and the Brewers, Brewers up two nothing. Other game going on worth mentioning, the Arizona Diamondbacks, Matt. Man, we had a Grand Slam in the first inning of the Mets and Braves game. We had a Grand Slam in the first inning of Diamondbacks Rockies tonight. Nolan Aronato hit a Grand Slam in the bottom of the first. So two first inning Grand Slams tonight. Arizona leading four to nothing there. Arizona and Philly right now tied at 63 and 56, both in the playoffs. Padres one game back there in the National League wild card.
