Hi, I'm Dr. Vonda Wright, and I'm so excited to be back with you on HOT For Your Health, where we have bleeding edge conversations on science, health, and culture. And today, I'm joined by a scientist who is a recent friend of mine, maybe within the last five years, but he is not only fascinating, but today, when I was preparing for this, reading his formal bio, I had to sit back because I'm so impressed. So we are going to be joined by Dr. Jin Shi. He has a PhD with an original education taking place in China and France. Now, Dr. Shi, I don't speak French, so do not go there with us today.
We can speak in French on this. Maybe some people would be interested. But out of his postdoc, which was very short, he became the division chief of experimental pathology and director of research for University of Florida's Diabetes Center. He then moved his career to Georgia, where he, gosh, you did so many things. You were a scholar in genomic medicine at the Medical College of Georgia, founding director of biotechnology and genomic medicine, and ran labs for Augusta University where you were most recently an academic. And during your career, this is where people I had to sit back for a few seconds, and I even texted you. Dr. She has over 16,000 research citations and has secured more than $100 million in research grants. So any of you out there who write grants or know what it takes to get a paper published, you're probably sitting back going, well, Dr. She must be 600 years old to have accomplished that. But I assure you, he is not. This is an audio podcast, but when you see him, you'll know that he is a... I was about to say a young man. We are young. I think I'm older, so I feel very young. But you've worked a long time to get $100 million in research grants. But here's the thing, here's the kicker. This is why I know Dr. She. We were connected as things happen via a network, right? Someone introduced you to me, and then we had several conversations, and then I got really interested in what you were doing.
Dr. She is a serial entrepreneur starting many companies. And the current company for which he has taken the very courageous step of jumping out of academia, is to start a company called Jinfinity, which is all about longevity and harnessing the power of the new science of aging. And we're going to talk about that today.
So I need to pause because when you start talking about a career that has spanned all this academic work and now has taken that into avenues that are applicable to the general public. And I pause there because you know, Dr. She, sometimes academics, we just stay in the ivory towers and nobody gets the benefit of our work, right? So you have lived it in a courageous way. So I'm really excited to talk to you today about longevity and your company and how you and I are working together on my project called Precision Longevity. So welcome to HOT For Your Health.

Thank you very much, Nwantak.
**Vonda Wright** (3:55)
Well, I'm excited to talk to you today because for so many reasons, we've become friends over the work we've done together. But I really feel, Dr. She, that you have your finger on the pulse of longevity in this country.
So for those of our listeners who know that aging and longevity is a big deal that we're talking about now, describe for us what's going on in this country. What are people thinking? What's the whispering going on at the conferences you go to?
**Jin-Xiong She** (4:24)
So let's first define longevity.
**Vonda Wright** (4:28)
Okay.
**Jin-Xiong She** (4:29)
I think longevity means different things to different people. And as we discussed briefly before, there is a camp that I would call radical longevity.
And their goal is to extend someone's life as much as possible. And some even want to be immortal. Immortality is great. And I think everyone wants that. But currently, I believe the science is not quite near yet.
And the certain camp that I belong to, I think you belong to as well, includes people who really want to have a healthier and as long as possible life.
