Hello everybody, thanks for joining me after this NFL draft. I've had some time to think about what a crazy weekend it was. We had some surprising picks, we had some disappointing picks, we had a lot of double ups. One thing that tends to get missed immediately post-draft because of the excitement or, I guess in this case, lack of excitement from these rookies, is how veterans shook out post-NFL draft and the UDFA signing period. So that's what we're talking about today on the Dynasty Points mini podcast that are back.
And it starts right now.
First, I would like to start off by saying thank you to everyone that tuned in to any day of the Fantasy Points live draft coverage. Day one and day two were, as expected, a very professional deep breakdown into every player drafted, whether it was a safety like Caleb Downs, offensive linemen, defensive tackles and edge rushers, to Jeremiah Love and all the wide receivers. Day three was a chaotic, hot mess with myself and the Dynasty Points crew as we made good on our bet in season, our weekly points game.
Five hours of streaming and drinking, Jägermeister had us all over the place in our first mock draft that dropped. That was just a lot of fun, just kind of a heat of the moment mock draft that a lot of you have checked out. I'm sure we've made some terrible picks and let some players slide, but go and watch that, leave a comment. It was a lot of fun, so just thank you. Record breaking weekend for Fantasy Points in the draft weekend. Again, can't thank you guys enough. All of that being said, let's break into some of the players I think really made out pretty well. Now for better or worse, that is some of these guys could have some trades happening. Some of these guys can still get cut. They're not completely out of the woods yet, but I just have a list of some of my favorite veterans that might have survived this draft cycle. And of course, I'm going to start it out with the most controversial. It's Basial Tutin and Chris Rodriguez. Now there was so much smoke about Jacksonville getting a running back, and I actually thought there could be a chance, but they didn't. Instead, they drafted a purely run blocking tight end in round two that probably would have been there in round four.
I don't know. I don't know if the GM in Jacksonville is actually good at his job, but they didn't draft a running back. So now, obviously, by the time I'm recording this, they could have signed an undrafted free agent that I just missed. But I'm going to be way less worried about that than I would be if they drafted, let's say, somebody in the fourth or fifth round or even higher. So I think Tutin and Searod made out pretty well. I think it's still going to be a messy backfield, but I do think you're going to have at least a usable asset there in season. So if you're a bag holder of Tutin, congratulations. If you are a Chris Rodriguez ADP benefactor, well, congratulations. I think those two made out pretty well. I'll also go Cam Scataboo...
Scatabow, either way.
Giants did not draft a running back. They did not get Jeremiah Love. They did not make it past three, which I'm still so surprised at. But also Tyrone Tracy Jr. is back up. I mean, an ADP steal for the most part, a very usable asset when Cam went down with injury, and who knows how that injury is going to go completely, and how the Giants are going to use running backs. I think he's definitely back as being a buy for me. In drafts, outside of drafts, I'd probably have to pay more than I want to for him, but I definitely liking what happened with the Giants running back. Speaking of more running backs here, Chase Brown. People continue to fade Chase Brown. I won't. He is unbelievable. I do think they get a long-term contract worked out with him, and they did not bring anybody in. Now, this could also be good for Taj Brooks, who was a sleeper favorite last year, but they did not really bring anybody in here that is going to affect Chase Brown. So I think Chase Brown really made out. I'm definitely okay still having him in my top 10 Dynasty running backs. I really do believe that contract is coming. So big wheels up for Chase Brown made it through this draft. Speaking of, Javontae Williams is another player that I really thought made out really well. They're not bringing in any extended competition for him. It looks like it is just his backfield now. Malik Davis was very good towards the end of the year last year. So I think again, both players, whether you're grabbing Javontae Williams to be your RB2 or in some really gross running back rooms, your RB1. And Davis is definitely a viable handcuff slash flex play at times with how the Cowboys operated last year. So I thought Javontae Williams definitely made out well. And then also shout out to George Pickens who did not get traded. I really thought he was going to get traded. Lot of smoke there after signing the franchise tag. He was definitely trade eligible and who knows? It's the Cowboys. It can still happen. But the Cowboys did have a really, really nice draft. And I will say after talking with Jacob and Ryan, that David Montgomery is somebody in this draft class that I think is going to be a very valuable player. Contract extension, new team in Houston. They definitely attacked the trenches and then didn't bring anybody else in. I definitely think Woody Marks is still terrible. So I think David Montgomery actually gets a little bit of a boost here. And with how poorly second round of rookie drafts kind of shook out because we had so many double ups and so many second round picks basically set on fire, these late twos, if you can do it, if there's somebody that still believes in these players here in this draft, I'm thinking you can go and send out that late two and start poking around for a David Montgomery who gets kind of left for dead. So I definitely like David Montgomery now as a veteran winner of this cycle. DeAndre Swift and My Guy Menunguy.
