Today, we are in hot Atlanta, although I don't know how hot it is considering they're coming off another losing season, eight straight for the franchise, where he Morris got the boot as head coach in steps, a new regime. Kevin Stefanski is your new head coach, former coach of the year, Kevin Stefanski, I say, Matt Ryan and Ian Cunningham in the front office as well. If the Falcons do take a step in 2026-27, obviously quarterback will be at the heart of that conversation. JVT, Tuatunga Vailoa is your favorite to be the starter for week one. Michael Pennex coming off of that injury.
But obviously, that's kind of the heart of where we need to begin this.
**Jonathan Von Tobel** (1:38)
We do. And you always remember what you saw last. And for Tuat, it wasn't particularly great the way that it went out in Miami. Having said that, a base surface level statistic line of 67.7 percent completion, 6.9 yards per attempt, 20 touchdowns, 15 interceptions. There's a lot worse quarterback play out there that could be had, and that's exactly what Tuat was season ago. And he kind of turned the corner a bit in terms of putting the ball in danger. But I think my whole point is twofold and it ties into Tuat.
I don't know about you, I'm a big Kevin Stefanski guy. Our former guest here, Adam Burke, former Cleveland Browns fan, maybe.
**Stormy Buonantony** (2:12)
He's still a Browns fan, whether he likes it or not.
**Jonathan Von Tobel** (2:14)
But a Cleveland Browns fan to his very core, I think he's also a very big Kevin Stefanski guy. He was given nothing out in Cleveland and we still know the successes that he had at some point. Winning coach of the year, generating some really strong offenses, getting to the postseason. I do think that Stefanski now with a really, we'll call it like a pretty solidly full cupboard of weapons on offense. Got to figure out which going to get a quarterback, but you're a scheme and a coach that gets the most out of their quarterbacks at times in a much friendlier environment. You're not playing out there outside in Cleveland, you get to play indoors in the NFC South, which is a much more favorable division for you when you're talking about traveling in the winter months to have to go outdoors and play.
I think Stefanski is at the start of all of this, and I think he's going to be able to work wonders with this crew of offense, starting with Tuatunga-Wailoa, who I assume is going to win this job. Let's just not forget, Stormy, we talked about this a thousand times. Say which one about Tuat?
Multiple times throughout his career under Mike McDaniel, he was on the fringe of a couple of MVP races, and the peak of Tuatunga-Wailoa is very good, and in a system that is going to maximize a quarterback's potential, I think that means that this team's potential is going to get maximized as well.
**Stormy Buonantony** (3:21)
I do feel like there is a ceiling for whatever reason he's yet to be able to get over, but yes, you mentioned it, he has been in the MVP conversation a couple of times. 2023, he led the National Football League in passing yards, that is not that long ago.
And something that you like, if you are somebody who is at least on the surface intrigued by Atlanta this year, is what has everybody talked about for years as the Kryptonite for Tuatango by Lowebun, cold weather. Well, what's the recipe to fix that? Going to a team that plays in a dome and has a lot of friendly weather places on its schedule this year, that should be another feather in the cap, I think.
