You know, the Sidemen themselves, they have so much stuff going on. We sometimes joke, you know, actual Sidemen is a side job for them. After that thumbnail change, the video got 2.5x views in those 28 days, and there were like over 200 comments on each of those versions. And that was just for me, and then other people have comments as well.

I always see you interviewing people for the Sidemen. What would you recommend people who want to work with their dream channel?

**Tim Haubeil** (0:24)
The question, like for me, one of the keys was...

**Richard** (0:26)
Today, we're joined by the Director of the Sidemen with over 20 million subscribers. He's one of the world's leading YouTube strategists, my first ever hire at 1of10, and has contributed to videos tolling more than a billion views. Guys, welcome Tim Haubeil.

**Tim Haubeil** (0:43)
Thank you, Richard. Thank you, Vex. Thanks for having me. This is my first ever podcast I'm going on. So this will be quite an exciting or nerve-wracking experience. We'll see how it turns out. But yeah, I'm excited to talk YouTube.

**Richard** (0:57)
So in 30 seconds, what's the one piece of advice you could give to an aspiring YouTuber out there?

**Tim Haubeil** (1:05)
That's a good question. I think it's important to have a balance between ambition and patience. I see it with YouTubers that just start. I see it even with big YouTubers. If you want to rush the process, oftentimes you can get quick results, but then they're not super sustainable. If you want to build something big long term, I think it's always best to be patient and build the right way instead of just chasing those quick wins and clickbaity titles or whatever.
And obviously, there's a lot more to all of that, but on a top level, I think that's quite important and something, yeah. I talk a lot about your people.

**Richard** (1:50)
And I'm sure a lot of people are curious. What's your story about how you ended up working with the Sidemen? Like I remember back in the days, you would say like a dream channel to work with, with actually the Sidemen, and then you end up working with them.

**Tim Haubeil** (2:02)
Yeah. I mean, it kind of depends on how far back you want to go. Obviously, I have like maybe, I don't know if it's actually that different of a story, because a lot of the people that we now know working with some of the biggest YouTubers in the world have a similar story. But I just did normal university, like a bachelor's master's degree, and in the end of my master's degree, which was for industrial engineering and management, I kind of realized all the internships and stuff I've done, just never gave me all that I was looking for. Before that, I was always an itch that was kind of left unscratched. And I'd been flirting with the idea of doing something with YouTube for 10 years, just studying YouTube on my own, trying to understand how it works, how everything behind YouTube works. And I then originally hit up Patty Galloway, because he was looking for someone to help him out with data stuff on Twitter in like early 2021
Ended up helping him out doing some data analysis for the channels he was working with at the time, which was super exciting. It was people like Jesser or Jordan Matter. Yes, I'm like big channel, so that was super cool for me to get access to that data. And then obviously we met in 2022, started working together. And I'd been a big fan of the Sidemen for over, like for 12 years ish now, since before they were the Sidemen, because I lived in the UK for a couple of years at that point. And so I would always look forward to when you ask me, as you said, like, you know, what's my dream in YouTube? I would say, if I can do something with them at some point. But then the actual story is kind of pretty simple. I reached out to Victor, my boss, or the head of content at Sidemen after the Charity Match 2022 Reached out to him on LinkedIn. They were looking for new thumbnail designers, editors, all that kind of stuff. I told him, hey, you know, I don't do any of the stuff that you're looking for, but this is what I do. I'm good at analytics. I've worked with a couple of different channels. Let me know if you want to chat. And to my surprise, you did. When it up chatting, I ended up starting as a retention specialist, sort of quality control role for three months.
