Dan Schneier is a senior editor at CBS Sports and a co-host of The Big Blue Bancer Podcast. He previously has done work at Pro Football Focus and Fox Sports. He's a Giants fan, he's a film grinder, and contrary to popular belief, there is no D in his last name. These are his late-round perspectives.
I've been typing your name more frequently than I would otherwise be doing, obviously, because you're on the show, and I'm putting together the show sheet and all that kind of stuff. Do you, how frequently do you get a D in your name versus not being in your name?
**Dan Schneier** (0:42)
It's just constant. It's been my entire life. I think even when people don't see the D and pronounce the D, they just have no clue how to pronounce this last name. Even though it's like easy to if you just think of like Schneider without the D, but it just confuses people and it's been confusing for everybody my entire life. That's my life.
**JJ** (0:59)
It's just one of those names. There's some names where whenever I type them out and I'm typing them, I never will. For some reason, Trey McBride's last name, I always put McBridge for some reason.
Every time I'm putting that G in there for some reason. With yours, I'm typing it out, I just keep putting the D in there and I'm not meaning to put that in there. Do you get Schneider more than Schneier in general?
**Dan Schneier** (1:21)
I think I get Schneier the most. That's the one I get the most.
**JJ** (1:23)
Interesting. As someone who can feel for you with the last name mispronunciations, I totally get it.
**Dan Schneier** (1:34)
I got to be honest with you, I've never done one of these cold opens in a show ever. I had no idea what to expect, so I hope I didn't mess that up too badly.
**JJ** (1:40)
No. You can't mess up the cold open any worse than there was one episode that I did with John Daigle last year, good friend, and he hopped on and I was just like, Daigle, how's it going, buddy?
That was the cold open. No, this is perfect. That's a perfect way to, I like doing the cold open because you just get right into it and you're able to break the ice a little bit and it at least gives a little bit of a different, from a listener perspective, they're jumping in literally when we, because most shows that we do, 99 percent of them that don't have cold opens, people don't necessarily know this, but there are some shows we'll go on where we're having conversations for a half hour before the show starts, and then again for a half hour after the show ends, and at least with this, you're cutting off that beginning part and you're getting all of the discussion.
**Dan Schneier** (2:36)
I like it. Yeah.
**JJ** (2:37)
All right. This is your first time on Perspectives. I want the audience, if they're not familiar with your work and what you do, to get to know you.
Talk about what you're about, what you do, your Giants fandom. By the way, I almost made a D and Giants defense joke in there, but I decided not to.
**Dan Schneier** (2:57)
It might have landed.
**JJ** (2:59)
It would have been a little rough. No, I was just going to say, talk about everything, about what you're doing, your come up and how you got into this crazy game.
**Dan Schneier** (3:08)
Yeah, I appreciate that. I did need to start the show though first by thanking you. It's an honor to be on the show, dude. I've followed your work forever. I've been a huge fan of your work forever. Can literally word for word, this is sickening, but word for word, recite the Living the Stream intro song.
I don't know how.
**JJ** (3:24)
You're one of those sickos.
**Dan Schneier** (3:25)
I'm one of those sickos. I don't even know how I still have it in my head, not to be offensive, but I haven't really listened to show as much in the last couple of years because I'm so busy. I still can hit that intro, word for word. I think it's the best intro in sports, but love the work you do. I love the transition you've made. The solo show, it is not easy to solo podcast. It is a really difficult thing to do. So I thought it was really impressive that you took that leap and you were able to execute it the way you have. So thank you for having me on the show.
