Hello, I'm Peter King, and welcome to the MMQB Podcast with Peter King, where I take you inside the minds of the biggest influencers in the NFL.
This week, a very special podcast, a single guest, Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, with an extended conversation about all things football, all things stadiums, and all things NFL. I asked Jones how difficult it was to basically demote Tony Romo in favor of Dak Prescott this year.

**Jerry Jones** (0:40)
I would quickly say Tony handled the situation, and he handled his team and his teammates, and consequently, if you will, handled his coaches and handled me, if you will, as the owner. Tony, from day one, unquestionably wanted to do what was in the winning best interest of our team.

So we've got a special podcast this week. We've got the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones. And it's so interesting. I usually talk to Jerry Jones when he's with his team. But in this occasion, you are up in New York City.
You have been with the National Football Foundation, of which you're on the board of directors, right?

**Jerry Jones** (2:45)
Yes, that's right, Peter.

**Peter King** (2:47)
And you are a big believer in the National Football Foundation because you are a big believer in the long-term best interests of football. So what's your stake in the National Football Foundation?

**Jerry Jones** (3:03)
Well, Peter, to sum it up, the effort of the support of the Football Foundation has principally been involved about honoring the great scholars, young scholars that have played football but have excelled in scholarship. And so that there are some 15 of those scholars that have played football around the country that are basically recognized for how great students that they are.
And that's a big function of the annual dinner that is there, but it's also a time to recognize the active coaches and the past coaches. And so names, it's a who's who of coaching legends, as well as existing coaches that would be at that event.

**Peter King** (3:58)
Yeah, all of college football is here.

**Jerry Jones** (4:00)
All of college football, it is that it's a great time, Christmas time, New York come up, traditionally always done in the great ballroom of the Waldorf story. Waldorf is getting ready to be remodeled, and so it won't be there for several years, but still it has all of that aspect to it. But then you realize that you're with an organization that gives away the MacArthur Bowl, that General MacArthur received its highest award, the National Football Foundation. You realize that John Wayne received the award, Presidents, Gerald Ford received the award, but at the end of the day, everybody in there knows the values of having played football.
I got a chance to tell the story of how my coach, Frank Braus, at Arkansas, and what he instilled in me as a team member that we got to play for and win a national championship. But the last game I ever played in was the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas, but we worked out in Houston for a week to get away from the fanfare. He took me in, as well as the rest of our team, into the Astrodome. The Astrodome had never been played in, but it was totally finished, speak in span, to have a baseball game within a month when we were there in January, maybe six weeks.
We walked in there, I was like 20 My mouth dropped open, I looked and I saw that great Astrodome, and I thought, where do you even begin to think about this, and what would it be like to be in sports and play in something like this? And my point to my audience two nights ago was, that reappeared in my mind when I built AT&T Stadium. And I remember standing there and I remember seeing that a man and people could cause something like that to happen. Now you could put five of those Astrodomes in AT&T Stadium today.
