I guess we have to. Go get them. Thank you, Aaron Boone. I appreciate it. Welcome to the Go Get Them podcast with me, Chris McMonigle, as we will delve into the three-game sweep at the hands of the Tigers. And the Yankees are now on a seven-game losing streak, and you can call it a swoon if you'd like. You can call it whatever you want. I call it bad baseball, and that's what we have seen for the last seven games, for sure.
You could play the numbers game and go back further. Who cares?
This is really... This, to me, is about the seven-game losing streak. They won the series before that. I know they had a lousy series in Cincinnati, but this is about the losing streak and how they're playing right now. And I can see the first comment, this team isn't winning squat this year. I don't believe I've ever seen them look that bad. That's where I differ with you guys. I am not going to look at this as an indication of how they'll play in the postseason. I still think they'll make the postseason. But have they looked this bad? Not offensively. They have not looked this inept offensively in any of the other swoons in the previous years. And yes, they happen every year. I don't know why. We talked about this, I believe, on the last podcast. I don't even know where to begin, to be totally honest with you. We'll probably focus mainly on today's game, because that's the one with the most interesting questions in how it was handled and the most interesting moves. The other ones, really, let's be honest, Weathers, while not giving up home runs, didn't pitch well. And yes, there was some defense behind them, and we know what the Yankees' defense issues are right now with the injuries, he didn't give them much of a chance. And Casey Meyers with the lead dominated the lineup. That's absolutely atrocious right now. Same thing with Cam Schlitler yesterday. Didn't really give the Yankees much of a chance to win a game against Schubel. He needed to be the ace. He needed to be the front runner, Cy Young Award winner that he's been all year. And he came up small and gave up big home runs after. Yes, he might have been able to get out of that first. That's a tough catch. The ball kind of rolls out of the glove of Spencer Jones. But Kam Schluether didn't give them much of a chance. That's not to say that the offense isn't allowed to score runs off Schubel. But right now, listen, I've said it before. This is where I feel like if you want to and I know we want to have the conversation about swooning and why it happens every year and it's the same story. And that's where I don't necessarily agree with every single Yankee fan that, you know, it's the same season every year. They get off to the hot start. They have the miserable midseason swoon. They figure it out somewhat and then they have a disappointing postseason. Well, I mean, I suppose that's happened the last couple of years. I don't think this is a movie. I don't buy the line that this is like watching the same TV show and expecting a different end. I don't. I think every year is unique to itself. And the swoons are caused by different reasons every year. Last year's swoon to me was probably worse. Not in what we've seen on the field or the losing streaks or the ineptitude offensively. To me, it was worse because they went into Toronto healthy. They had MVP caliber judge. They had a judge who was hitting 400 in April and May. Like this team doesn't have judge. That team was healthier. That offense was healthier than this offense right now. And yet it's still performed that way. And I thought last year was a lot more on the manager than this one because like we can blame Boone. I'm not going to defend Boone. In fact, I thought Boone had a bad game today. I thought Boone did not make decisions to win this game late in the ball game and we'll go over it.
