Hour 3: Yankees Should Trade for Rafael Devers to Replace Stanton

Mc Monigle here with you on The Carton Show, got you for two more hours, take you till six. Yankee pregame out in Washington. Word is the Mets are expecting to play. They've been told that Boston's gonna make it.
If you hadn't heard yet, Boston had all kinds of plane issues. We're not sure when they were scheduled to originally fly out or not, but they have come across from Chicago, their series against the White Sox. They were supposed to be flying into New York, had all kinds of delays and it looks like they're not landing until right about now. They're expected to be landing in the next few minutes at LaGuardia and then working their way over to City Field. So as of right now, the game is on. As of right now, the Red Sox are expecting to be there. First pitch 7-10, whatever it is, 7-10, 7-15, 7-05. Hold on, let me get the exact time for first pitch then.
First pitch for the Mets will be 7-15. Red Sox are expected to be there. As of right now, that's what we know. After a night full of playing, I'm assuming they were supposed to fly out yesterday, but plane issues, they'll be getting into LaGuardia any minute and should make their way over to City Field in time to play tonight. Unfortunate set of circumstances. Mets have to go out there and win tonight. You cannot lose to a team that just arrived. You can't lose to a team that's been at the airport all day long, unable to sleep, unable to stretch, cramped in a seat, cramped in a plane, just gets to LaGuardia, has to hustle over to Fenway, put on their uniforms and go right out to the field for warmups. With McClain on the mound, you got to win. We'll play Would You, Wouldn't You, coming up with Gallo and Hoffman a little bit later, as I give them all the names of possible, possible players that the Mets could look to trade and see how they feel about it, and then we'll spin the wheel a little bit as well. Anthony Volpe not in the lineup again tonight. That is four of the last five games. Anthony Volpe made one start against McClanahan. So one game in the Yankees didn't score and he runs. Not to put it on him, just pointing out facts. Whole team sucked. But these are important games in the midst of their real slumping. I think we can argue all we want. We can say we don't want Anthony Volpe, we want Caballero, we want this. It's not Anthony Volpe's fault. He should have went down and played second base in the minors. He was never asked to play second base. He said he'd do anything. He wouldn't want to move. We could have all these stupid arguments all day long. The bottom line is the Yankees are telling us with their actions how they feel about Anthony Volpe in the moment. These are the biggest games of the year. They're chasing the division. They're falling apart. They're in the middle of a third, fourth consecutive June swoon. They just got done playing the most important series of the year against Tampa Bay who they trail four games in the standings. They have three more games until the all-star break. They're waiting for the all-star break to image their most important player, three-time MVP superstar Aaron Judge. We're heading into the all-star break. We're heading into finding out how long he's going to be out or at least have a better timetable of how long he's going to be out. These are the most important games of the year.
These last five games tonight and the last four are the most important games of the year and Caballero has been the starting shortstop for four of them. The Yankees are telling you.
Prior to this, I didn't think the Yankees saw it this way. Prior to this series, I wasn't sure the Yankees would have handled this this way. And again, it's not to bash Anthony Volpe or blame him for this or say he's a disaster who cannot play, he's killing the team. None of those things are true. The only thing that happens to be true is Caballero is the better shortstop and the Yankees play better when he's the shortstop. Those are the two simple facts. Not that Volpe sucks. I mean, I'm disappointed in him and I don't think he's been a good player for the Yankees and he hasn't earned, like, it's not like someone's, you know, screwing him here. This is well within what's earned on the field. Maybe it's not his fault. Maybe he's not the worst player on the team. Maybe he's got a 340 on base percentage, all the things previous calls have told me yesterday. All of that's true. Here's the simple fact, nobody's screwing Anthony Volpe because he doesn't deserve to be the starting shortstop of the Yankees.
