Hour 3: Yankees Need to Call Mets for Taylor Today

As they look to continue their winning ways, as they've won the last two series, two out of three against Pittsburgh, two out of three this weekend against Philadelphia. And now they take on the Chicago White Sox in Chicago for a four game set. Max Fried back on the mound tonight. I do have to interrupt with something real quick. My son just sent me a text. Another 82-0. That makes five for him. He's very excited. Very excited for the 82-0. Do you want to hear the players for 82-0? I would love to hear this because I keep on failing. Magic Johnson.

Could have been anyone. Could have been any Bing for all we know. Could have been any Dave. But Dave Bing, Magic Johnson, Kevin Durant, Yannis and Wilt Chamberlain. 82-0. Congratulations, Tommy. We're all excited for you. Number five. 888-808-1019. Let me give you a couple names for players that I could see as we take your calls up until 7 o'clock.
I do think right now.
I know you want to wait. Most teams wait for the deadline, especially in this new market with the wild card and everybody holding out. There are a handful of teams that are open for sale, and obviously the Mets are one of them. And I do think the Yankees right now, without Bellinger in this lineup, just until the trade deadline, there's still another, what, seven, eight games between now and the trade deadline. Eight if you include the actual day of the deadline, which goes till 6 p.m. There, three games back in the division, the Rays just won three against Cleveland. You're trying to hang in this division, and right now the outfield is just in a bad spot, both offensively and defensively. Grisham, who I do believe can hit and is better than most people think, but I can't argue, down year, we all knew he wasn't going to be as good as last year, but I thought he'd be better than this. I still think that is in there, and he was right up until he got injured, and he does still get clutch hits, but can't argue, hitting 216, and he's in a two for 32 slump right now. And as we saw last night, misplayed a ball into a triple in center field. You've got Dominguez, who's actually playing better defensively, and in the first game of the series, charged on a base hit and actually made a really nice play that held Riamoto at third base and didn't allow him to score and held him right there, and he ended up getting stuck there because Hedrick's awesome and got out Turner and Schwaber to hold the game at 1-0, but we all know he's lousy defensively, and what we saw from Schumann out there in left, diving all over the place, he's not a good outfielder. Now, they did bring up Spencer Jones, who is a better outfielder, but they haven't shown any interest in letting him hit against left-handed pitching. They need right now, right now, someone who can come in and impact this outfield, and I don't think it's crazy to call the Mets today and see what you can get for Taylor. He's got a 1.4 OPS since coming back from the IL, 18 games. They've been clutch, he's had some clutch moments. This is a big home run last night.
He had a big home run against the Yankees and Bednar. The last runs, Bednar gave up, but you know how good defensively he is, and right now, he's hitting left handed pitching and he's just hitting in general. He's a gamer. I would go out and plus I know he's available today. That's part of this. Part of my problem with the trade deadline is I don't know who's gonna ultimately be available.
Taylor is available today. I would absolutely be open to go get him right now and help not only with this team moving forward, but help in the next eight days where they are going to be lousy both defensively and offensively in the outfield. Is he the perfect fit? I mean, I don't know if he's the perfect fit, but he checks the boxes and I know David Stearns would part with him tomorrow. So I think that's I would if I'm Brian Cashman, I'm on the phone right now and seeing what Stearns would be willing to give up for Taylor. Obviously, I'm not paying a lot for Taylor, but that's a piece I would bring in here right now and help this team immediately. And then the other name that's been bandied about, I read it from John Heyman, I mentioned it in my podcast last night, and I've seen Tommy Lugauer mention it.
