All right. A little bit of Creed. You know, he even plays Creed when Craig's away. That's how it's done. McMonigle here with you. Craig is off this week, all week. I'll be rocking with you today. We got you till 6, 888-808-1019.
As we focused on the Yankees to start the hour, and I know I'm the Yankee guy, and I know I haven't joked about four and a half hours. It won't be four and a half hours. Dammit, this is the series right here. This is the season. They're coming off losing to the Twadens, and they've got a four-game series against Tampa. The Mets, it was an ugly weekend. Oh my God, they almost lost the game. They were up 10-3 in the ninth inning. Their season's over. We've already had those discussions. We can get to it if you'd like. I saw a boomer this morning talking about trading Lindor. Yankees could use them. That would be a fun trade.
But their season's over. They're selling at the deadline. The Yankees have it all right in front of them, to quote a great man.
But I'll tell you this, and this was kind of the main part of my open. We could blame the manager. I don't care. Blame whoever you want. I know we have to have the play. We play the blade game. Someone has to be to blame. The Yankees have a major problem if we don't see a better brand of baseball in these four games. If we don't see a sense of urgency, if we don't see this team show up, if we see the same crap, if we see them fall behind and the shoulders shrug, if we see bad plays, if we see drop pop ups, if we see guys picked off, if we see the same crap that we have seen for the last ten games in these four, they have a bigger problem than the manager. I don't want to fire the manager, I won't even argue with you, fire him, I don't care. This group of players is a major problem if they don't show up and play with a sense of urgency. I don't care who their manager is. I really don't care, I don't care if it's Whoopi Goldberg and Eddie, I really don't care. You bring a fan off the street. I remember Mike once said he could manage a baseball team, he put Francesca in the dugout. I don't give a damn who the manager of the Yankees is. I don't. This is on the players.
They need to figure out these four games. This is a huge four game set for the Yankees and it starts with Cam and it's unfair to put it on the shoulders, but we all understand the offense and it's not even the offensive woes that I'm talking about because we know the offense is struggling right now. If they get shut down, I'm not going to, you know, it's not the same as the same, you know, the defense needs to be much better. The mistakes need to stop. Offensively, they're going through it. They need guys to wake up. Bellinger is the number one guy. He needs to wake up, man.
But they need Cam Schlueter to go out there and he can't do, he's on, it's unfair. He's got to go six, seven innings to give up no more than one or two runs max, two runs max. He gives up more than two runs, they're probably not going to win the game and quite frankly, although it's unfair, not good enough. Not good enough.
He needs to be the man tonight and this team needs to show that they can step up no matter who their manager is.
It's the best team in the American League. I'll continue to say it. They need to prove it in these four games. Otherwise, you can kiss the division goodbye and that would make it a hell of a lot harder to accomplish their goal. It doesn't end the season, but it makes it a hell of a lot harder to accomplish their goal. Chris, in Ocean, what's up, Chris?
**SPEAKER_2** (3:49)
Hey, Chris. It's good to talk to you.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:52)
Good to talk to you.
**SPEAKER_2** (3:55)
This is an organization that this general manager fired Joe Tauri, this general manager fired Joe Girardi. Well. This general manager himself and...
**Chris McMonigle** (4:03)
In both those cases, not exactly fired, but didn't bring back, but gotcha.
**SPEAKER_2** (4:08)
Well, it's okay. So, I mean...
**Chris McMonigle** (4:12)
They offered Joe Tauri a contract. He decided not to take it. Now, they threw in incentives that pissed off Joe and they probably knew it would piss off Joe, but technically, they did not fire him. Same thing with Girardi. They just did not give him a contract extension.
