Hour 2: Craig Carton Blasts Nike's "Embarrassing" Victor Wembanyama Shoe

The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle

June 25, 2026

Craig Carton reacts to his daughter's decision to attend a Mets game despite the team's ongoing struggles and recent blowout losses. They also debate a caller's claim that older fans may never see another Mets championship before discussing the Knicks revoking season tickets for playoff resales.
Speakers: Craig Carton, Chris McMonigle

We'll get to the baseball announcement a little bit later on today, because it's kind of more of a global conversation, and I don't know how many people are interested in it today, but we'll give it to you a little bit later on. Obviously, the New York Mets' embarrassment continues after giving up 20 runs yesterday at home against the Cubbies. They now have a final game against the Cubs tonight, and then the Red Hot Phillies come into town, so I'm not sure where these wins are going to start coming from. I also think it matters anyway.
Actually, my daughter just texted me.
She's like, Daddy, don't be upset with me. And that's not a good way to text a father. Yeah, if you want to use your mic.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:36)
That's not a good start, no.

**Craig Carton** (0:37)
That's never what you want to hear as a dad.
Daddy, don't be disappointed in me. I'm like, are you pregnant?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:43)
Yeah, that's the first thing I think of.

**Craig Carton** (0:44)
All right? Yeah. Because we'd like a couple grandkids.
Not today.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:49)
No.

**Craig Carton** (0:49)
But I would never.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:51)
That's good for her to know.

**Craig Carton** (0:52)
Yeah, I'm not saying, yo, try, but, uh, Daddy, you don't. Daddy, don't be disappointed in me.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:58)
We got his first bike spandex outfit. Right.

**Craig Carton** (1:01)
And I go, honey bun, what is it? Whatever it is, you can tell your dad.
And she goes, you're going to be disappointed in me. And now I'm like, oh, we're just doubled down on the object that I have as a dad.
She goes, I'm doing it tonight. And I'm like, God only knows what that means. And this is like a long drawn out text message I'm having with my daughter. Well, by the way, she's an adult. She's 25 years old.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:25)
So she's living her life. She can do whatever she wants. Exactly. On some level.

**Craig Carton** (1:28)
No, she's 25

**Chris McMonigle** (1:29)
Yeah.

**Craig Carton** (1:30)
Right?

**Chris McMonigle** (1:30)
She can do what she wants.

**Craig Carton** (1:31)
She can pretty much do what she wants.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:32)
But she's still looking for your approval.

**Craig Carton** (1:34)
Well, she's no, not so much my approval.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:36)
No?

**Craig Carton** (1:37)
She's looking for my sympathy, I think.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:39)
Oh, okay.

**Craig Carton** (1:40)
She's looking for a shoulder. She's looking for a daddy hug. All right? And here's the payoff.
I'm going to the Mets game tonight. Oh, please don't be upset with me, daddy.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:51)
What are you going to do?

**Craig Carton** (1:53)
And I wrote back to her.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:54)
How do you handle such a situation?

**Craig Carton** (1:55)
I wrote back to her, who raised you? And then she goes, well, you did, obviously. And I wrote back, I'm not your father.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:08)
I mean, normally, I think you overreact to things, but I don't know what else you, I think you handled it exactly right. I think you got to end it.

**Craig Carton** (2:16)
That's it.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:16)
Cut her off.

**Craig Carton** (2:17)
That's it. She's done.
You do your own laundry from now on. No more coming home with bags of laundry or asking daddy to drive to Murray Hill to pick up your laundry. No more of it.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:29)
Why couldn't she just been pregnant? This is the worst. Terrible.

**Craig Carton** (2:33)
Pregnancy would be so much easier on me as a dad.
I'd welcome in a granddaughter or grandson with nothing but love in my heart. But you're disrespecting the family name. What happens if you get seen at Citi Field tonight and someone puts two and two together? You're Carton's daughter?

**Chris McMonigle** (2:50)
No.
Worse than that, she's going to accept the upgrade when she gets the text message. That's right.

**Craig Carton** (2:58)
On my credit card probably.
Daddy, great news. You're not going to believe this. We got upgraded.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:04)
Right behind home plate.

**Craig Carton** (3:05)
Oh, is that right? You got upgraded. Is that right? Is that why I saw you on TV? You know, well, I mean, it said first come first serve. And there wasn't a lot of people fighting us for those seats.
Then my credit card gets whack, whack, whack. So, yeah, so I no longer have a daughter. That's unfortunate. I'm now just a boy dad. No longer a girl dad. I was a girl dad for 25 years. I was a girl dad.
