At least this puts me in a little bit of a better mood. I do love fixing a hole. I'm a Sgt. Pepper guy, as everybody knows. We're going to get right to your calls, Yankee fans, but we do have news, a little bit of breaking news. NBA's been a little wacky lately. And now, listen, are the Boston Celtics really a threat anymore?
As the Boston Celtics have agreed to trade Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers, for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks, according to Shams. Again, the Boston Celtics, they're not keeping their tandem together, they're not keeping their two superstars together, they are moving on from Jaylen Brown. Jaylen Brown traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks. So the Celtics will team up Tatum with Paul George and Mitchell Robinson. And today we find out that Jaylen Brown will no longer be a Boston Celtic, which I mean to me, like as of right now, today, I mean the Celtics are less of a threat today. Paul George, while had his moments in that series where he couldn't miss a three, but like no longer at the top of his game.
Who cares about the two second-round picks at all? Two first-round picks from Philadelphia. They're not lottery picks. So I mean, I don't know how the Boston Celtics got better today. This Boston Celtics got worse today without Mitchell Robinson. I mean, even with Mitchell Robinson. But we're going to get your calls on the Yankees because that's the talking point for me, not the Boston Celtics, but that it is a massive trade in the NBA as the Celtics break up the Tatum-Jaylen Round Duo and bring in Paul George.
But today is, I'm going to get right to your calls pretty much. But just one of the more, obviously, the entire stretch of losing seven games in a row is unacceptable. Losing seven games in a row is sickening. Depending on what the Tampa Bay Rays do tonight, you could be talking about being five games out in the loss column. After cutting down a seven game loss column deficit to a two game lead, they could be right back to five games as the Rays have won six in a row, while the Yankees have lost six in a row. And they're doing it in ugly fashion. They are being embarrassed offensively. It's one of the worst seven game stretches offensively the franchise has ever had. They continue to throw Austin Wells out there, who's one of having one of the worst offensive seasons of any Yankee in history.
We've seen poor defense. I'm not like saying that the Yankees aren't a bad defensive team or blaming the defense on anything other than them being not good defensively right now. But also, I think the injuries have really impacted even more than offensively. I'm more pissed at the offense defensively. You can recognize how the injuries have impacted them defensively. They're playing outfielders who aren't very good at outfield. Like, Caballero is not an outfielder, he's the starting center fielder today. Because of injuries and then the illness that they had prior to the game. So like, it's just obvious that right now, despite being called one of the deepest Yankee teams they've had in a while, and I still believe that, the depth can only go so far. And without Judge, and without Grisham, who's going to be back on Friday, and without Fried in the starting rotation, and without Wells, excuse me, without Rice and Bellinger doing anything, this team right now is awful. And we've seen a lot, and one of the things, and we're just seeing ineptitude in a bunch of different ways. And today I saw something, and I just want to mention it quick, because I mentioned Volpe's at bats. Volpe gets hit in his last at bat, then he gets thrown out trying to steal second base. Volpe did something today that might be one of the dumbest things I've seen on the field. And it just speaks to the idea that these guys know they are in funks and they have no self-confidence. Because Anthony Volpe with two outs and Jazz at second base attempted to lay down a bunt. With a runner in scoring position, two outs and quite possibly the worst hitter in Major League Baseball, Austin Wells on deck, trying to bunt there quite possibly could be the dumbest thing I've ever seen on a baseball field. That might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen on a baseball field. Bunting with a runner on second and two outs with Austin Wells on deck might be one of the worst decisions a hitter has ever made in the history of the game.
