Hour 1: "Lollipop Gate" Rocks the Yankees: Boone Scolds Chisholm

The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle

June 23, 2026

Craig and Big Mac dive into "Lollipop Gate" after Jazz Chisholm Jr. was spotted playing second base with a blow pop in his mouth. They examine Aaron Boone’s uncharacteristic public criticism of the player and weigh the optics of in-game candy against traditional snacks like sunflower seeds.
Speakers: Craig Carton, Chris McMonigle

It's The Carton Show with Big Mac. Got a great show for you today. On a gorgeous Tuesday afternoon in New York City, phone number to join, 888-808-1019.
Obviously, you got the NBA draft tonight, which as champions means very little to us as New York Knicks fans. But we will get to the honest trade a little bit later on. Baseball out of the gate before I get into it with you. Also some breaking NFL news today. First, let me just say good afternoon, Big Mac. How are you today, Craig?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:37)
I'm doing great, Craig. How are you?

**Craig Carton** (0:38)
Great. Well, Lollipop Gate is now hit in New York City. If you watched last night's Yankee game, a 5-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
You have a situation, a couple of weird situations in the game. There was one where I guess a sprinkler head or something was sticking up out of the infield.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:56)
The camera.

**Craig Carton** (0:57)
Was it a camera?

**Chris McMonigle** (0:57)
Yeah.

**Craig Carton** (0:58)
A couple inches up, which obviously became a problem, so they took care of that. And then, of course, you have the situation during the game that turned a lot of people off. A lot of very sensitive, very, very angry people on the heels of a Knicks championship. I need to remind people to think about that.
I know a lot of you.

**SPEAKER_4** (1:14)
Remember how there was no pressure? Yeah.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:16)
Not as the Knicks in one championship. Everyone's going to be laid back, no more pressure on the Yankees. All they have to do is eat candy.

**Craig Carton** (1:22)
A lot of you have turned your attention now to Jazz Chisholm and the Yankees who have now lost three consecutive games. Jazz Chisholm playing second base yesterday with a blow pop in his mouth. Not during a time out, not in the dugout. On the field during the game, he's got a blow pop in his mouth. Now, some guys chew seeds and keep them in their back pocket.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:43)
Yes, they do.

**Craig Carton** (1:44)
Some guys chew a bunch of Double Bubble or Bazooka. Some guys keep that in their back pocket.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:49)
They've been chewing tobacco.

**Craig Carton** (1:50)
There used to be a time, less now, maybe not in anyone now.

**SPEAKER_4** (1:53)
No, I think it's still out there.

**Craig Carton** (1:55)
They throw a little dip in there.
But now Jazz Chisholm, Jazz Chisholm for the second time this year, was working a blow pop during the game.
I didn't think much of it, but I didn't notice it. And now Aaron Boone was asked about it. It was at the Talk of the Yanks podcast, I think is what it is. And he said it pissed him off. And he said he didn't see it in the moment during the game, he was brought to his attention after the game, and he talked to Jazz about it, and we will not see it again this year. And I'm trying to figure out why people are so upset about it.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:31)
Yeah, I was trying to figure it out.

**Craig Carton** (2:32)
Because he's Cavalier, I guess?

**Chris McMonigle** (2:33)
I guess that's it.
There's obviously two parts to the story. One, just what Jazz did and how you feel about it, and then clearly the manager and how he handled it. But I was arguing all morning with people because I don't understand it. I'll be totally honest with you.

**Craig Carton** (2:45)
Like an actual argument?

**Chris McMonigle** (2:46)
No, I'm going back and forth with people on Twitter. I took the train today, so I had a little bit of extra time to just focus on the phone. Probably a bad idea. But I'm going back and forth with people on Twitter because I don't understand the outrage. I truly do not. I didn't care last night. We have seen guys do chew gum, tobacco, seeds in the back pocket in the middle of the game, rip open the bag, spit the piece they tore off the bag on the floor, dump seeds in their face, spitting seeds all over the place. We have seen this forever. This is not the first player to eat anything on the field.

**Craig Carton** (3:16)
Oh, I see what's happening now. I see what's happening now. Now I know why you got in an argument. This is one of those moments. This is one of those moments where at the end of the world, no, it's not, but I see the direction you're going in.
