Hour 1: Craig Calls Out 'Awful' Boyz II Men All-Star Game Performance

I was in the band, like seven or eight years ago, was not there, and I'm kinda half watching, half listening to it, and I'm like, that was as if me, Pete and Anthony Gallo decided to sing a song at home plate in front of 45,000 people and another 10 million people watching on TV. It's like they didn't know how to sing.

No, I hate to admit it, cause I'm a Boyz II Men guy. I grew up on Boyz II Men.

**Craig Carton** (1:25)
Yeah.

They were awful. I was sitting there talking, cause I get home late, so I think it was during the pregame, right? It was during the- I don't think it was midgame.

**Craig Carton** (1:32)
No, Boyz II Men was midgame.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:33)
Oh, so it was midgame.

**Craig Carton** (1:34)
Yeah, it was like the fifth or sixth inning, whatever it was.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:36)
Me and my wife were talking, the kids are asking me a million questions, and all of a sudden we hear the singing, and we're like, man, that's awful. Before I even know it's Boyz II Men, I look up-

**Craig Carton** (1:43)
And you're doing a Jackson 5 classic, by the way.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:46)
I look up and I just see the screen, and they're panning the crowd and everything. I'm like, that is awful. And then my wife's like, I think it's Boyz II Men. And I'm like, no, it's Boyz II Men. I mean, it was Boyz II Men.

**Craig Carton** (1:55)
I couldn't believe how bad Boyz II Men were. Oh, that was depressing. Yeah, and by the way, Boyz II Men still tours, and I've seen some TikTok clips, they sound like they can still sing.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:04)
It could be just as some of his headset was off, because I thought it was just the one-

**Craig Carton** (2:07)
It was bad.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:08)
Yeah, it was bad.

**Craig Carton** (2:09)
That was bad. Jennifer Hudson, I thought was great. And then I know a lot of people, like I'm an anthem guy, as you know, my favorite song of all time, and I collect anthems, I have an entire playlist just of anthems.
Pati LaBelle was not great, but I'm going to give her some grace. She's 80
And I know everyone out there is like, Pati LaBelle sucks. First off, she's from Philadelphia. She's one of the greats of all time. All right. And she's 80 years old. So I give Pati LaBelle a pass.

You didn't give Paul McCartney a pass on Saturday Night Live.

**Craig Carton** (2:42)
I did not. I did not.
I did not. He can't say it like either anymore. But it was like the whole thing was like it's weird because we complained that for a long time. The NBA All-Star game wasn't a basketball game. It was just like fast break dunks. And that's that's unwatchable after a certain amount of time. Right. We complain. Some people complain, you know, that obviously the Pro Bowl and football when they moved out of Hawaii and have now made it into like a train wreck event where it's no longer well, they're not playing football. Right.
But last night you got the exact opposite. And I think we complain that the other leagues and sports don't provide us. Well, baseball always provides us. And that's an actual baseball game.

Yeah.

**Craig Carton** (3:21)
And now people are complaining. Too many strikeouts.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:24)
Too much like a baseball game.

**Craig Carton** (3:25)
But it's a baseball game.

It's a baseball game.

Like you can't say, hey pitchers, I want you to groove fastballs at 85 miles an hour. So we have a lot of offense on both sides. It's a baseball game. Yeah. So we have to decide as Americans, I think, do we want the All-Star game, whether it's NBA, NFL, NHL or Major League Baseball, to just be another game, but a game played by the best players in the sport that particular year? Or do we want something else? Because we have now complained about both. We don't like last night's game because it wasn't an entertaining game. Too many strikeouts, obviously.

Yeah, not enough offense.

**Craig Carton** (4:05)
No offense at all from the National League, but that's a baseball game.

Or do we want them to create something that's not a game, but kind of like a game within the game?
