Two o'clock straight up!
It's The Carton Show with Big Mac! On a gorgeous Monday afternoon, phone number to join, 888-808-1019.
They refer to New York City now as Titletown, USA, the home of champions and the home of the best team in the NBA, the New York Knickerbockers are world champions. The only downside is that it didn't happen yesterday. It happened two days ago.
But no one has slept. Everybody's still drunk. Women are throwing it around like it's free. And I am just living out a dream right now that my favorite team of all my teams did something I never thought I'd quite see in my lifetime. And that of course is we're in a championship. We got tons of wall to wall coverage for you. Surprise guests along the way. Parade information. And nothing but good times today. Plus we go back in time. And see how people discuss the Brunson acquisition when it happened. We'll get to that later on. But good afternoon Big Mac. How are you, kid?
**Chris McMonigle** (1:13)
I couldn't be better, Craig. Congratulations to you. Congratulations to us. Congratulations to all Nick fans. We are celebrating a championship today.
**Craig Carton** (1:22)
Title Town!
**Chris McMonigle** (1:23)
It's unbelievable. It's almost sad that we're not going to get to watch any more Nick Games.
**Craig Carton** (1:27)
It's a bit of a let down.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:28)
I'm going to miss this team. I'm going to miss them.
**Craig Carton** (1:30)
Every other day, right?
**Chris McMonigle** (1:32)
For the last month we have watched, and again this is where it goes back to me, this is the best run.
The dominance we saw through the East, the find a way to win that we saw in the NBA Finals, it's almost like two different teams, just an absolute steamroller and then a team that just executed and found ways to win against the Spurs in the NBA Finals. It was as good as it's ever going to get, and that's a team we will look back on forever, man. We're going to ask that question, we're going to consistently ask it. How does it rank against this? How does it rank against that? Where does Jalen Brunson rank in New York history? And those questions can be answered over time. Right now, this feels like in the moment, as good as it's ever been. And one of the great teams we've ever had the pleasure of watching go through a postseason in the history of our fandom here in New York City. That's how special this was.
**Craig Carton** (2:20)
Yeah, and don't forget, there were expectations this year.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:22)
Absolutely.
**Craig Carton** (2:23)
There were expectations based on what happened last year, based on the fact that we didn't go after Yannis. Based on the fact that on January 5th, the owner came on this show and said, we're not making any major deals because we think, me and Leon Rose, that this team is good enough to win a title right now.
And that proved, what's the word, prescient? Prescient, he predicted the future. I think it's prescient is the word.
Prescient Achua, who is part of the OG deal. He's no longer on Nick Bucke. Look, I don't know, 86, I'm in high school. When the New York Mets obviously take care of business in game six, and then winning game seven, the Strawberry Homer on the key at there. Obviously, the OG had an OB tip, which I do believe this conversation is about making a statue now, outside of the garden and rightfully so.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:10)
That's the signature moment of this series.
**Craig Carton** (3:12)
And, you know, when you, you don't have to rank champions amongst champions. As long as you are a champion, your championship is as good as anybody else's. Now, I do think we are in the business of like, of comparing and contrasting. And, you know, this made me feel this way when that one made me feel that way.
We're all Nick fans. That's the one coming out of here. But I'm not a Giants fan. I have no idea what the 2008 or the 11th Super Bowl was like as a fan. Obviously, I was sitting right here behind this microphone. Some are even suggesting I'm the good luck charm in New York. I come to FAN in 2007
They win a Super Bowl. I come back to FAN this year. We win a championship on the hardwood.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:55)
Some could say that.
**Craig Carton** (3:56)
Some are claiming I'm the good luck charm here in New York City. But whether it's me or not, we witnessed something that... You know, we may see another championship. I think the Knicks are good enough.
