Full Show: McMonigle Breaks Down Yankees Injuries and Trade Deadline Strategies

Yes, sir! Yes, sir! 2 o'clock, straight up. It's The Carton Show. McMonigle here with you, riding solo today. We'll see if we have any surprises for you as we take it till 7 o'clock. Yankees out playing in Chicago for the entire week against the White Sox and then the Cubs, 888-808-1019. We got a big Monday show off a big weekend. We got still plenty to talk about with LeBron. We got some football coming your way as well. But we'll start with the New York Yankees who off last, off this weekend, take two out of three against the Philadelphia Phillies and what felt like a playoff atmosphere series, whether it was the games on prime time, which I want to get into Sunday Night Baseball because I thought it was awful. And I'm seeing everywhere that everybody loved it. So I'm gonna have to ask you guys whether you like that broadcast or not. But obviously, coming off of this series, where you take two out of three, but you lose Cody Bellinger. And this offense, and I heard Evan talking about it, and you don't have to be a Sports Talk Show host or a baseball expert to watch this Yankee offense and what they've been doing for the last two months and particularly now without Cody Bellinger, who I've been killing. Cody Bellinger has been a major issue for this Yankee team. He is, to me, kind of the face of the struggles they've had over the last two months offensively because he's supposed to be better than this. I've been dogging on Bellinger for two months saying, where are you now that judge is gone? You were the off season. You make $35 million a year. You're the guy who needs to step up. And he's been awful. And still he hasn't hit a home run since June 17th. But at least he was showing a pulse over the last 10 games. And you see what this team looks like even more so without him. And even more than offensively, which is where we're all going to focus because the offense is terrible, defensively, as we saw what the defense looks like. You've got Grisham in center field, who's completely diminished and regressed defensively. Right? You've got Dominguez in right field. You know what he is. And then you got Schumann. And I'm assuming on an everyday basis, because of how bad defensively Schumann is out there diving all over the place, we're going to see Spencer Jones out there. So not only does losing Bellinger to the 10-day IELT, and we will see how long he's gone. He's already running drills. So was Grisham when he hurt his calf muscle, or excuse me, his hamstring, and he was still gone for 20 games or so. Like, as we wait to see how bad the news is on Cody Bellinger, and you wait to see how long this Yankee offense will be out of him. And yes, the trade deadline is in eight days.
So reinforcements are apparently coming in the next eight days to take over. If you look at it right now, offensively, they are awful. And the team they roll out, with Dominguez hitting in the middle of the order, with Volpe hitting in the middle of the order, with Rosario hitting in the middle of the order. It is an offense that's not capable of any more than it's doing. It's not like, hey, you need this guy to turn around. Sure, could Grisham be better in a 2 for 32 slump? I think Grisham's better than this. He's proven to be better than this last year and most of this year. But he's in a funk right now and he's not going to suddenly become Beirut. But you look at this team, they're not getting any better offensively until the trade deadline. And here's my point on all of this. Because I hear so much, yes, you need to focus on the offense, need to focus on the offense. The offense stinks. I just opened up the show saying the offense stinks. But here's the fact of the matter. They won 2 out of 3 games against a playoff team in the National League that is vastly superior to the American League. And a team that's been surging, I know they've cooled off a little bit in the last 10 games or so, but a team that's been surging since they fired the manager and hired Don Mattingly. And a team that's widely considered one of the two or three or four best teams in the National League and they went into their building and won 2 out of 3 with what? Say it with me now, pitching. As you have seen what Cam Schlittler did in the first game of that series, you saw what even Ryan Weathers did in that series. And prior to that, you saw Max Fried come back and pitch incredibly well and you have seen now the last two starts where Garrett Cole is really rounded into shape. And on top of that, the New York Yankees, and believe it or not, the New York Yankees have the best bullpen in baseball.
