Just kidding, I'm messing around. Been a fun afternoon watching the Yankees suck.
It's The Carton Show with Big Mac, everybody. 505 here on The Fan. So an abbreviated edition of The Carton Show as we get ready for another boring game of baseball tonight for the New Year, the second place, New York Yankees. Good afternoon, Big Mac. How are you today, kid?

I did a great job filling in while you were dicking around up in Warwick, New York. And Monday, Willie Colon was here while you were up there in Orange County digging around that special gold dirt of yours up there in Warwick County. But while you were out for a couple of days, and I thought the New York Yankees maybe turned a little corner, you know, winning a couple of games in a row, having the Pirates in town, this series, and yet today, just more of the same from your Yankees, I don't want to hear about the Umpires, I don't want to hear about Major League Baseball talking to the Pirates and the Umpers and not the Yankees. I don't want to hear about any of that crap. The New York Yankees offense sucks, period, stop. Now, I am starting to view the Yankees, however, I want to be very honest and fair about this, the same exact way I viewed the New York Knicks back in January and February, where the Knicks had a certain stretch where they didn't play great basketball, you lose two, three games in a row, everybody's questioning, yes, you're a playoff team, but how good can you be? Does this team have the ability to turn it on in the postseason and all that jazz? I'm starting to have that same, not championship vibe from the Yankees because there is no right now championship vibe, even for you, the biggest shill I know.
But the reality is that they've got a five and a half game lead in the wild card. The American League is still not very, very good. They're going to be in the postseason, whether it's as the one, two or three wild card team. Obviously, the Boston Red Sox are now into the wild card spot, having won what? 14 consecutive games, I think is the number right now.
And I'm trying to figure out, am I going to come in here every day with you after another listless offensive performance with only get one significant hit in today's game, the three one bomb, of course, the tie it from Ben Rice, which typically means, all right, they get the big hit, go to extras, Yankees are going to find a way to win. They give up the two spot in the top of the 10th, they leave a man stranded on third in the bottom of the 10th and you go home five, three losers. I can't do this every day with you in August when I know the Yankees are A, gonna be a playoff team and B, are gonna look, I think, if not drastically different, very different come August 3rd.

Yeah, I mean, they better.
To your point, the offense is terrible. I mean, that's the problem. I know Cruz gave up some runs in extra innings. He's not great in that role in extra innings like that, but yeah, this is about the offense. Yeah, I thought, again, not that they turned some corner, but I thought the other night against Pittsburgh was a good night for them because they jump out to the early lead and give it back, and then the offense has to go out and do it again, and they did. So I thought that was a productive night for them, and maybe was gonna get something going, but you look up and down this lineup, like, let's be honest. I mean, Ben Rice is the three-run home run. They have two separate times where they have runners in first and second, nobody out. They do nothing with it.
As much as I like the kid, it's getting to the point where Dominguez has just brutal at bats in every key situation ever. And to me, I know I said a lot to you, and we don't have to do it every day all the way through August. But while Judge is gone, while Stanton is gone, and before they hit the trade deadline to acquire any kind of bat they can at catcher, at third base, at shortstop, wherever they're going to try to acquire a bat, Bellinger was the entire off season. The entire off season they waited for this guy. That was it. They paid him $30-plus million a year. He's supposed to be a guy in the middle of the sort of that does something. He's done nothing for them. He hasn't hit a home run in over a month. He doesn't drive the baseball. He doesn't hit home runs. He doesn't drive in runs. He doesn't come through in clutch situations. He has terrible at bats. And he is part of the problem right now. Because we knew, remember when you mocked me? You mocked me, Craig. I know it's going to be, we'll go through the litany of times you mocked me, but you mocked me when I said, oh, what, you know, injuries were a big problem.
