Episode 33: Yankees make ALL the errors in ugly loss at Fenway | 'Go Get 'Em'

Oh, and Go Get'Em we shall, Aaron Boone. Welcome to the Go Get'Em podcast. I'm your host, Chris McMonigle. And we're doing this off of game one of the four games set up in Fenway as the Yankees drop the first game of the series. What was the, I literally ran here after we're done.

Yeah, six three, sorry. I didn't even write down the final score. Six three, as the Yankees have an ugly loss. And we're doing this tonight because I can't do any more. Usually, I like to split up the podcast on four game sets because doing four games is a bit too much.
And I'm not going to be able to do it this weekend. I'm actually going to Boston. I know I'm crazy. They're going to get swept down, I'm sure. But, ugly game. And we'll just break it down just real quick.

You lose a game when Cam Schlittler is on the mound is frustrating, especially in Boston. You know how much it means to him to pitch in Boston. I didn't see the post game again. You know me. I start these games late. As soon as I ended, I came running in here to do it.
Just one of those games where there's a couple of signature moments. I mean, there's a couple of signature moments where this game falls apart. Now, again, this is why those two games in Detroit were so big. Because if they lost those two games, really either of those games, but if they lost those two games in particular, this would be a freaking disaster. So those two games were huge. Today, I'll tell you the truth. Before we get into every play, because there's multiple reasons why they lost the game. Defense is why they lost the game.
Clearly, with the errors after the, famously the Mets had six errors last night, and everybody's flipping out all day about it. The Yankees give you four errors tonight. Wasn't pretty and if you can't assume the double play, Anthony Volpe absolutely deserves an error in that ninth inning. There's no doubt about it. He didn't get his feet right. I thought he has a signature moment in this game on why they lost, but in all honesty, if you look at, again, is it why they lost? They lost the game because their defense and Rosario's play specifically is the turning point of the game, a ball right through his legs. But if you look at the team right now and you look at the Detroit series and really Bellinger for a while now, outside of Goldschmidt, the meat of the order is really not producing right now. Like, Ben Rice is 0-4-5 in this game, including the last out on a slider with a shaky Chapman up there trying to give you one of those Chapman innings. He gives you a weak ground ball back to Chapman, who makes a nice play. I wasn't sure he was going to make it. But he's 0-4-5 in this game. Bellinger 0-4-4 in this game with a terrible at bat in the first inning. Terrible. If you look at what is a main problem of the Yankees right now, I would say it's that Bellinger looks as bad as he's looked in a while to me with his at bats over the last couple of games.
I would say that Rice looks as bad as I've seen from him.
Although he had a hot stretch for a while, the big home run against, really since then, the three-run shot against Cincinnati, he hasn't done much in the last now six games, and Bellinger the same. So if you would tell me what needs to change for the Yankees to start winning a little bit more consistently, which again, they are winning consistently. The only series they've lost is the Cincinnati series. They came back after the three-game loss and won the Detroit series. This is the first game of four, three more to go in Fenway. I'm not overly concerned. It's a lousy, feel-bad loss because they played crappy. There's no doubt. They played crappy. So let's get into it. But I would say just overall, what the Yankees are gonna need moving forward, and they had it for a while. Like they had it right after the judge goes down the end of May, beginning of June. That first series against Cleveland's kind of ugly. And then they kind of take off offensively. And Bellinger's hitting and Rice is hitting. And obviously Goldschmidt's doing what he's doing. If you ask me right now, the thing that's missing from this team at the moment is clearly the offense. It's struggling with runners and scoring positions still. Even in the games they won against Detroit. Yes, they faced two good starting pitchers, but the offense hasn't really been clicking. And they got three home runs against Schubel, which is great. You get three home runs, score four runs against Schubel, especially when he looked the way he looked. You take that win any day. It's a great win. And it's a good offensive performance. I'm not knocking the offensive performance. But it's three swings. And quite honestly, they need Rice and Bellinger to be forces in the middle of the lineup. And over the last week or so, a little more than that, Rice hasn't been. And maybe even dating back, I'd have to look at the numbers over his last ten games. I don't like what I've seen from Bellinger. And let's get to that right in the first inning. So I thought you could make an argument not getting to early, early.
