Craig Carton Wonders If James Dolan Should BAN NYC Mayor From MSG Amid Knicks Chaos!

The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle

June 10, 2026

Things got heated on WFAN as Craig Carton and Chris McMonigle debated the controversy surrounding Madison Square Garden, the NYC watch party restrictions, and whether James Dolan should flex his power against City Hall.
Speakers: Craig Carton, Chris McMonigle

The woo at halftime tonight.
There you go, Carton Show, Big Mac, Jim Dolan coming in in just over an hour. Discuss this crazy shutdown of New York City from 29th to 35th Street, some 6th to 8th Avenues, much like we did for Monday night and how that impacts people. And also shutting down the garden-led watch parties. The mayor claims that he tried to get cute about, in my opinion, hey, I've saved the watch parties for everybody, but now it's going to be for a max of a thousand people and you have to get a ticket for it and I'm not sure how you get the ticket.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:38)
That's something we got to ask James Dolan.

**Craig Carton** (0:40)
I don't think he would know either because it's no longer a garden run thing. It's now a city run watch party.
So if I wanted to get one of those, no, it's not a garden run thing.

**Chris McMonigle** (0:50)
Well, I thought the mayor just made it clear that they applied for a thousand person.

**Craig Carton** (0:55)
But the mayor said, I'm saving the watch party and we're gonna do it as a ticketed event, meaning the city is gonna do it as a ticketed event is how I understand it. It's a good question for Dolan. I'll ask him that.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:08)
Who's selling the tickets?

**Craig Carton** (1:09)
Who has tickets, right?

**Chris McMonigle** (1:11)
Yeah, who has a lucky thousand?

**Craig Carton** (1:13)
And I'm not even sure if you have to buy them.
Now, when the Knicks were on the road, I think it was 10 bucks to get into the garden or radio city when we had those two indoor watch parties. I think it was 10 dollars.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:23)
On the street, you should have to pay.

**Craig Carton** (1:24)
Streets should be free.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:25)
Streets should be free.

**Craig Carton** (1:26)
As it always has been when the garden ran it. But I don't think tonight's thing is a garden run party. I think it's a city run party.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:35)
I don't know.

**Craig Carton** (1:36)
Because it's the mayor that's trying to take ownership of it, which is what politicians do, obviously. He also said, to be fair, he referred to Madison Square Garden as a stadium on Monday. So when it comes to sports, he may not be the guy.
But Gallo, you just did research on it. What do you have there?

**SPEAKER_3** (1:54)
Yeah.

**Craig Carton** (1:54)
So the link I went to brings you to an nba.com site. And it's like all the block parties, watch parties around the city. For this specifically, it's already done. It's sold out.
But was there a cost involved?

**Chris McMonigle** (2:07)
I don't know. I can't even see. Because it's...

**Craig Carton** (2:09)
Got it.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:09)
Are you getting it through the NBA? It's an NBA website. They have Brooklyn Bowl, Wolfman's Rink, or Wolfman's Rinks.

**Craig Carton** (2:16)
Yeah. That's in Central Park.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:18)
And then...

**Craig Carton** (2:18)
He said Wolfman. Sorry.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:20)
I wouldn't know that.

**Craig Carton** (2:21)
Tell me you don't live in New York City without telling me you don't live in New York City. Wolfman's Rink. Yeah, I hang out in Central Park. Yeah, by the way, maybe you should.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:27)
Yeah.

**Craig Carton** (2:28)
Maybe you should leave Brooklyn once in a while.

**SPEAKER_3** (2:30)
I do.

**Craig Carton** (2:30)
And go painting with Wembys once in a while.

**SPEAKER_3** (2:33)
In the building. Hopefully.

**Craig Carton** (2:35)
And who do you have to thank for that?

**SPEAKER_3** (2:36)
You.

**Craig Carton** (2:36)
That's right. So you don't have to brag about it. I got you the pass.
He's like bragging about something I gave him.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:45)
He's going to be in the building. You're not.

**Craig Carton** (2:46)
Yeah, no. Because I chose not to be.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:49)
He fell on his sword.

**Craig Carton** (2:49)
Yes. I was offered an opportunity to be there tonight.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:52)
I'm sure you were.

**Craig Carton** (2:53)
But I'm a family man.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:54)
Yeah, that's right.

**Craig Carton** (2:54)
Now, I'll tell you this though.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:56)
What's?

**Craig Carton** (2:56)
Game 6 comes rolling around and I might have to do, do, do.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:02)
I think we have to send out another email about doing the show from Madison Square Garden.

**Craig Carton** (3:06)
So they got back to me about that.
So the place that we would normally do a show from, the NBA controls that. It's no longer a Knicks controlled building. It's an NBA controlled building for that part of it. And while they would have loved us to have been there, and they got back to me to their credit, they don't control that part of the building when it comes to media pregame because if teams or the half time show or the anthem singer want to do walkthroughs at any point prior to the doors opening, they get first crack at that. So if you and I are sitting there doing a show and they decide like, for example, they had the crew from Hamilton out there the other day, and they were doing a whole thing, right? Well, if they're going to do a rehearsal there, and you and I are sitting there trying to do a radio show, they take precedence because they're part of the entertainment for the game. That's the only reason we are not live today at Madison Square Garden because the NBA controls and dictates that, and we're not rights holders currently of the Knicks. But the Gardeners would love to have us there. Just make it a regular season game. We're in.
