2 o'clock straight up!
It's The Carton Show with Big Mac. Number to join as always, 888-808-1019 on a gorgeous Thursday afternoon here in the big city. And the New York Yankees do not play today. So reprieve after losing 7 consecutive games. So maybe we'll see if everyone has tempered down a little bit. From the let's fire boo nonsense, let's fire castor nonsense, let's get rid of half the team nonsense, let's make House Steinbrenner sell. Because I remind you of this. The New York Mets still play in this town. And they're far worse.
So relax a little bit. It ain't good obviously. But I'm wondering for you, having had almost 24 hours now, to settle down after yesterday afternoon's tough loss and another sweep, back to back sweeps the Aggies have endured. If you come to work today, and I should say good afternoon Big Mac, how are you?
**Chris McMonigle** (1:05)
Oh, I'm doing well Craig, how are you?
**Craig Carton** (1:06)
Do you come to work today in a more positive, happy mental place of mind? Or are you still miserable looking to yell and scream all day?
**Chris McMonigle** (1:19)
I'm still miserable looking to yell and scream all day.
**Craig Carton** (1:21)
Right, 888-808-101-9, there you have it.
**Chris McMonigle** (1:23)
I know you can not be miserable, it's 7 games in a row, it's 7 losses in a row.
They've given up more unearned runs in these last 13 games than they had prior all year. So they're playing terrible defense, the starting rotation has picked one hell of a time to be down, the offense has gone completely blank, including their two best hitters that are still available in Rice and Bellinger, which I still think is the biggest problem this team has, and I thought the manager who, I agree with you, I think it's silly, I mean, you can have the opinion he needs to be fired, here's the one thing I'll say about firing Aaron Boone, because I think the fan base, and again, I know it's not necessarily everywhere, I can just tell you the fans that reach out to me, everyone wants him gone, like, yes, he continues to get them into swoons, year after year, they get into swoons. They also pull out of them. Last year, the Mets went into a June swoon on June 13th, and never pulled out of it.
**Craig Carton** (2:13)
Still are in it.
**Chris McMonigle** (2:14)
Still are in it. The Yankees, every year, last year, I'm not throwing parades for this, I'm not telling you it's worthwhile, I'm not telling you we should celebrate it, but they were awful last year, and not without Judge, with Prime MVP Judge. Judge was hitting 400 in June when they went through their swoon. And as bad as they were, they finished with the best record in the American League. Now, it cost them the division, and that's my concern, but if you're looking to pull out of the swoon, who better than a proven manager who pulls them out of the swoon year in and year out?
Like, I don't understand it. Do I think it's a reasonable thought to have, considering it's his eighth year or ninth year, considering they haven't won a championship, considering we see some of the same trends, considering the captain of the team is questioning the team's focus? I don't think it's an unreasonable thought to think, when is it time to move on from Boone? I think right now would not be that time, or I'm not even close to thinking about that right now.
**Craig Carton** (3:04)
Well, I just, look, I don't think you fire Boone because I don't think Boone's responsible for losing the seven games in a row.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:11)
No, he didn't help them yesterday. I thought he had a bad day.
**Craig Carton** (3:13)
He may, and he could question some decisions. Obviously, that's the sake with every manager, but there's no Grisham, there's no Aaron Judge. You could stop there, forget about the other guys. And by the way, no one's talking about something that we didn't talk about yesterday either, so I guess we're guilty of it as well.
How about David Bednar comes back from giving birth a little bit sooner, right? How about if he's available to the Yankees yesterday, maybe they win that game?
**Chris McMonigle** (3:37)
Maybe.
**Craig Carton** (3:38)
As a possibility, instead of going to a guy you don't trust in the bullpen. I'm saying there's a lot of calls and reasons.
**Chris McMonigle** (3:43)
And they have food poisoning.
**Craig Carton** (3:45)
Right, you got food poisoning, you got your closure on paternity leave for, it seems like a month and a half. I know it wasn't that long, right?
