The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle

June 9, 2026

Craig Carton and Chris McMonigle discuss why the Knicks are still in a great spot despite their Game 3 loss and why they expect New York's best performance yet in Game 4.
Speakers: Craig Carton, Chris McMonigle

Here's Paul and Yonkers on the fan. Paul, what's going on?

**SPEAKER_2** (0:04)
Hey, nice to talk to you. Good afternoon.

**Craig Carton** (0:07)
Yeah.

**SPEAKER_2** (0:07)
Hey, it had nothing to do with referees last night.

**Craig Carton** (0:11)
No?

**SPEAKER_2** (0:12)
They started at third quarter, the Knicks had a chance to bury this team up seven to go to 15
They went all for nine. Had nothing to do with a referee. Bridges decided, I'm going to sit on the bench and clap. I'm not playing tonight. I don't know where that came from. Where was this guy?
Our three point special was Schumper went one for nine. He hit more iron than an iron worker. If these two guys don't show up Wednesday, it easily could be two and two. But if they showed up, we lost by four. Without no bridges and without no Schumper. Schumper, he would have been nothing.

**Craig Carton** (0:58)
Schummit, Schummit, not Schummit.

**SPEAKER_2** (0:59)
I apologize.

**Chris McMonigle** (1:00)
You're good, you're good.

**Craig Carton** (1:01)
We understand what you meant. You're good.

**SPEAKER_2** (1:03)
I apologize. He has the sweetest shot that goes right through the net in San Antonio. To be fair, he hit iron, his arm was short.

**Craig Carton** (1:12)
But Paul, you have to remember this. And I'm not saying anything you just said is inaccurate because it's not. If any one of those guys scores five more points, the New York Knicks are up 3-0. And you're exactly right about that. Now the Spurs get some credit for that because they had a smothering defensive game plan yesterday. And they kind of gave the Knicks a little taste of their own medicine. Bridges getting that second foul early through the entire rotation off. And obviously he was in Bridges' head at some point because he did not have a good game. He'll be the first to tell you he did not have a good game.
Let's be further honest about it. You know, earlier in this series, when the Knicks blew that 14-point lead and we're lucky that Wembe missed that shot in game two at the buzzer, the New York Knicks played a lousy fourth quarter then too.
So they've not put together a full four quarters of good basketball in this series yet. They've had a good second quarter. They had a good third quarter. But they've gotten out of the gate slowly. And they've not put together four quarters of winning basketball just yet, which is why, again, I'm not one of these crazy, I only see the world through rose-colored glasses. But we're lucky to be up two to one right now.
We've played poorly enough to be down.
And that's a reality. So I think you gotta consider the Knicks right now in a really good spot that we have a two-one lead and we've yet to play 48 minutes of really good basketball. My gut is we see their best game of the series Wednesday night. That's my gut on it.

**Chris McMonigle** (2:41)
Yeah. I think that's fair. I think it is fair to assume that you're gonna see the best version of them on Wednesday. But again, it has to be there.

**Craig Carton** (2:47)
You know what I was disappointed in last night? Jeremy Lin. Jeremy Lin had an opportunity. He was on with Barclay and Shaq and those guys.
And it was weird almost. I don't know if you caught any of the pregame.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:00)
No, I didn't.

**Craig Carton** (3:01)
He got an ovation when they introduced him as we knew he would. Right? But it was weird almost like, and I'm just I'm reading into it.
It was almost like he seemed uncomfortable.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:13)
Really?

**Craig Carton** (3:13)
Being back in the garden after these years. I know he and Carmelo were supposed to do an appearance on Melo's podcast. Oh, really? To try to.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:22)
Men the Fence?

**Craig Carton** (3:22)
Men the Fence that Carmelo created because he was jealous.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:25)
Correct.

**Craig Carton** (3:26)
That the Knicks were running the offense through Jeremy Lin. And then he was hurt during the Lin Sanity part of that year.
But Jeremy Lin, to his credit, said, I'll go on your podcast, but you and I need to talk offline as men first.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:40)
Really?

**Craig Carton** (3:40)
And I'll go on the podcast talking about everything.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:42)
Yeah.

**Craig Carton** (3:42)
But you and I should probably have a private conversation as men before we do your podcast. And I gotta tell you, I respect that.

**Chris McMonigle** (3:50)
Hell yeah.

**Craig Carton** (3:51)
Because if you and I had a problem, we would deal with it as men.
