All right, there's this amazing book called Getting Everything You Can Out Of All You've Got. I read it a few years ago and it changed my life.
And the reason I loved it was because it basically talks about how to get and make more money using things that you already have.
Coincidentally, today's podcast is brought to you by Business Made Simple. It's a podcast by Donald Miller, who I'm gonna tell you about in a second, but he has this amazing episode that's all related to this book and the things that I learned in this book. It's called How To Make Money With What You Already Have. It's an incredible episode. It talks about all the stuff that I learned in this book. The host is Donald Miller. I didn't know who Donald Miller was up until recently, but over the last 12 months, this is totally by coincidence. It was all separate people. They said, you have to check out Donald Miller. He's amazing. So I'm happy that he's part of HubSpot's podcast network. You can check it out, Business Made Simple Podcast. It's where he coaches you on how to build your business like an airplane, where the cockpit is your leadership, the body is your overhead, the right engine is your marketing, the left engine is your sales.
You have to check it out. This guy's amazing. It's called Business Made Simple with Donald Miller.

You just explained that like you're a machine learning thing, tagging it like extremely visually compelling.

**Colin Rosenblum** (1:07)
Yes.

**Sam Parr** (1:07)
Piece of content, high engagement to the end.

**Colin Rosenblum** (1:12)
I've seen too many videos at this point. I have to put them in the buckets.

**Sam Parr** (1:21)
Colin and Samir, do you guys know what you're getting into? Do you know what this is at all?

**Samir Chaudry** (1:26)
I thought this was a podcast about procurement.

**Sam Parr** (1:31)
Oh, all right.

**Shaan Puri** (1:33)
He's a fan, he's a super fan. I love it.

**Samir Chaudry** (1:35)
Is that not what this podcast is about?

**Sam Parr** (1:38)
Yeah, it's about office supplies.

**Samir Chaudry** (1:39)
I don't even know how to say the word procurement.

**Shaan Puri** (1:42)
Yeah. Once you get around us, that word becomes a problem.

**Samir Chaudry** (1:46)
Right, and Ben is the systems integrations guy, right?
Yeah, exactly. You know what I'm saying.

**Shaan Puri** (1:52)
And so give y'all's story. So I kind of know a little bit of it, but let's assume people listening to this don't know it, which is my way of saying, I kind of only half know it, but give me y'all's story.

**Samir Chaudry** (2:03)
Yeah, so I'm Samir, by the way. This is my voice, if you're listening.
I graduated college in 2011, and I went to school to study film and digital media. And I grew up in LA, so I was like really into the film business. I wanted to be a storyteller. I wanted to find a way to become a filmmaker. And that was a really challenging thing.

**Shaan Puri** (2:25)
You look involved, so how did you swing this? I'm gonna be a filmmaker.

**Sam Parr** (2:29)
Well, he's good looking, though, too. I mean, he looks like an LA person.

**Shaan Puri** (2:32)
I know, but obviously the parents don't care about that.

**Samir Chaudry** (2:34)
No, you're right. I mean, I remember the moment when I called my mom, and I was like, I'm not going to be a business major. I'm gonna be a film major. And it was a scary moment, I think, for them. But I was a bad high school student. I was not good in high school. I was just not good in college. I didn't do homework. I was not someone who really lived up to the standard of what it was to be an Indian kid, whereas my brother was student body president. He became a lawyer. Like he followed more of a traditional path. I think they had noticed that I was so unconventional, that it was like, all right, at this point, do whatever. But my dad's also really unconventional. He's an entrepreneur. He's a fashion designer. Like he's different.
So I think there was a bit of like, okay, I mean, you seem confident, figure it out.
And so for me, when I graduated school, I had an issue with being someone who wasn't good in school. Like I didn't, I wasn't great at like being an employee. That was really hard for me. I worked as an editor on a film called Ides of March in Hollywood, and I just didn't like it. I didn't like doing a single task. I didn't like doing one thing. And I had become aware of YouTube primarily because I was up in Northern California in college and was really fascinated by it. So I felt like I had all the tools to just upload a video and just make something.
