Yeah, buddy, back at it. Welcome on in. I guess it's season two of Cashing Out. I'm Dustin Swedelson. I'll be with you all night long from the Circus Sportsbook in downtown Las Vegas. August the 9th, be with you on a Sunday night. Let's get weird people. I'm thrilled to be back, thrilled to be with you. Let's win some bets, cash some checks, have a little bit of fun. As we get you ready for the NFL college football season to come, guide you through Sunday night baseball as right now in San Diego.
Five to two, the Friars with a lead over the Houston Astros. Gavin Sheets, while we were in a commercial break just now, left the building for a home run. His 15th of the season, that gave San Diego a 5-2 lead. I am on the over, nine in this one, nine or nine and a half, one of those. Either way, I don't feel good about it.
Most of my handicap was believing that Randy Vasquez would struggle against the Houston Astros and their bats today. He pitches to contact. He doesn't strike guys out. Thus far, Randy Vasquez, five innings, two hits, two runs, one strikeout. He has allowed one home run in this game. It was to Dalton Varsho, newly acquired center fielder from the Blue Jays for the Houston Astros. And here is Fernando Tatis, giving one a ride into right center. That is a double with two outs in the sixth. Tatis with his 11th homer of the year, that back in the fourth inning for San Diego. Now the chance to add another one on. Currently, your in-game number, it is San Diego minus 1820 It is the Astros plus 1060 The total is where we started at nine and a half. The reason why I don't feel great about this is not just the element of Vasquez, not allowing more runs than I anticipated, but it's also if San Diego has a lead, my thought was Houston would have a lead. Then San Diego wouldn't be using their highest leverage arms. This is one of, if not the best bullpen in all of baseball. Right now in the season, fifth best ERA out of the bullpen for the boys from San Diego. When they have a lead late in the sixth inning, they don't have to push Randy Vasquez when he's been efficient. He handed it off last inning to Kyle Hart, who gave them one inning of shutout baseball. He only threw seven pitches. And if I'm San Diego with a three run lead, maybe make it into a four run lead, eventually you just condense the game. When you have a bullpen as a lead, as the back end of the Padres is, you're able to do that. So if San Diego can play to run here, make this total go up, I would like the under, and unfortunately that's not gonna happen. It's a ground out to first. We're gonna ride with the bet. We can't do anything right now. Total just dropped to eight and a half. San Diego's mine is 1,600. Houston is plus 980
And this is unfortunate as Christian Javier went five innings, four runs, two strikeouts. I feel like I was in the minority where I thought Javier might struggle a little bit today against San Diego.
A big thing I'm noticing, and Scott Seidenberg and I were kind of commiserating about this when he was out the door, betting baseball right now, a lot of the information, a lot of the data that you like to use that you think is gonna be able to find projectable information, it's just not coming through. So to me, you have to start thinking about the human element, some of the road situations, the travel spots, the teams on a win streak, teams on a lose streak, when you want to bet in or against them. Because right now, a lot of the stuff that I'm looking at, as far as the season long trends, whether it's right handed hitters, left handed pitchers, whatever it may be on the road, team totals, I'm, what's it, right?
